The shocking news of Naya Rivera’s disappearance during a boating trip with her 4-year-old son Josey is the latest casualty in the so-called “Glee” curse.
The actress is now presumed dead, following the deaths of other young castmates, including Mark Salling and Cory Monteith.
Naya, who gained fame playing mean girl Santana Lopez on the hit FOX show, dated Salling in real life.
In 2018, the 35-year-old actor committed suicide after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.
His body was found hanging from a tree by a riverbed in Sunland, California, near his residence.
A month before his sudden death, Salling pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography as part of a plea deal. He admitted to owning around 50,000 pornographic images and 60 pornographic videos of underage children. At the time of his death, he was awaiting sentencing. He was expected to serve four to seven years in prison.
In her memoir “Sorry, Not Sorry,” Naya said she regretted the relationship after finding out the allegations against him.
“I think everyone should have that one relationship where you look back and ask yourself, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’ You’ll learn something and you won’t regret it,” Rivera wrote. “Unless, of course, that relationship was with someone who had a sizable stash of child porn on his computer. Then, by all means, regret everything.”
Mark’s scandal and death came five years after the “Glee” family lost Cory.
Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, was found dead in his Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver after a night out with friends.
The BC Coroners Service found that the 31-year-old died of “mixed drug toxicity” involving heroin and alcohol.
The show honored Cory and his character with a special episode, and Naya sang the heartbreaking song, “If I Die Young,” by the Band Perry.
Rivera told “Extra” of filming the scene, “That was you know, really difficult, but really good to be with everyone.”
