You’ll Want to Get Your Hands on This LEGO-Made NES Game Console

(SPOT.ph) Think of your childhood in the ’80s or ’90s and you’ll probably remember three things: a television set with knobs (no remote controls here!), a Nintendo Entertainment System, and LEGO brickslots of them. Fast forward to 2020, and the toy company brings us a Nintendo Entertainment System made of a whopping 2,646 LEGO pieces. It is available for U.S. $229.99 starting on August 1 through LEGO’s website.

It has over 2,000 LEGO pieces!

The LEGO Super Mario Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) features surprisingly realistic details you can fiddle with after building the whole model kit. It has a buildable Game Pak cartridge that you can pretend to insert into the game console, a controller with buttons you can actually tap, and a 1980s-style nine-inch television that comes with an 8-bit Mario from Super Mario Bros. that can move through the screen when you turn the knob. While you can’t actually play a NES game with it, the highly collectible set lets you bring back memories of simpler times.

“Super Mario has been a cherished figure in the gaming world for over 30 years now. Many adults still fondly remember that first time they saw Mario leap across the small screen, even if the graphics were a lot simpler than they are today. With the LEGO NES, we’re letting them truly indulge in that nostalgia, re-creating one of the most-loved consoles of all time so they can see the Super Mario from their childhoods once again—and even to share the experience of gaming in the 1980s with their own children,” said Maarten Simons, Creative Lead on LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System™, in a press release.
