Belize Reopening to Tourism – Latest Update

Belize

April 22 – Belize is lifting internal restrictions but won’t reopen land borders with Mexico and Guatemala yet

Prime Minister of Belize John Briceno, lifted a series of internal restrictions on April 16. From last week, Casinos -which employs hundreds of local people- reopened for business. Additionally, the Corozal Free Zone, the street side vending and other working and tourist activities have been reopened under strict biosecurity measures such as social distancing and mask wearing.

According to Briceno, the Cabinet has talked about the necessity to reopen their land borders with Mexico and Guatemala but they “feel” neither of these countries have taken the pandemic as seriously and effectively as Belize has, and the government wants to keep their figures under control.

March 22

In an attempt to boost their economy, the Belize government has decided to waive all travel restrictions to vaccinated travelers. Authorities specifically mentioned that travelers from America (United States) just need a vaccination certification issued 2 weeks prior to arrival, but all vaccinated travelers can have access to the same benefit.

“…This card [must] include medical information about the vaccine you received, the date of vaccination, and where you were vaccinated,” said the authorities.

November 20

Belize has been open to international tourists since October 2020. As of today, The Government does not have any travel bans in place, so all travelers are welcomed. No self-isolation is required as long as you can produce a negative COVID-19 test.

Visitors will be required to:

  • Stay in selected hotels and resorts (check the list)
  • Download the Belize Health App
  • Show proof of a negative COVID-19 test (taken max 72 hours before the flight)
