Russia is open to tourists from 25 countries without quarantine

Russia is open to tourists from 25 countries but all visitors need to bring proof of a negative COVID-19 test result or a medical certificate for COVID-19 antibodies.

No all visitors need to quarantine. Local governments are allowed to set their own rules regarding quarantine requirements for arrivals. Visitors are advised to check with local authorities for current restrictions. 

The Russian government has extended its ban on flights from the United Kingdom until April 16.

April 7 – Russia resumed flights with the 2 first South American countries

Russia resumed flights with Cuba and Venezuela on April 1, and it might soon allow visitors to travel to Cuba for tourism. 

Varadero resort in Cuba may be the next Russians getaway destination. The announcement was made at an event hosted by the Federal Tourism Agency of Russia and was attended by a big number of tour operators and other members of the travel industry from Eurasia and other countries. 

“The interest is tremendous, they are just waiting to be told which agencies will fly and when to start selling” but still need some logistics work, stated a Russian diplomat. 

March 23 

Starting this week, local news have been reporting  shortages of Sputnik V, in important areas of the country such as Leningrad. In order to tackle this issue, the Russian Direct Investment Fund had signed an agreement with the India-based pharmaceutical Virchow Group to produce 200 million doses of Sputnik V, one of the most effective vaccines in the market this year. 

Also starting this week, the country will allow foreign university students from safe countries to return to classes according to a government decree signed last Saturday. 

February 26 – UK citizens/residents can travel to Russia again.

Although flights coming from the UK remain banned until, at least, March 16, UK citizens and residents can apply for a Russian visa for any purpose. Their trip should be scheduled after the ban is lifted. (Source)

As of February 10, 2,2 million people in Russia have received at least one dose of the vaccine. The country’s vaccination rollout has grown exponentially this month.

January 30 – Russia lifts travel restrictions for several countries

Last December Russian authorities decided to ban UK flights in order to protect its residents from the new strain of COVID-19 found there. The ban has been extended multiple times and it is currently in effect.

On the other hand, citizens and residents from Greece, India, Finland, Qatar, Singapore, and Vietnam are now allowed in the country as long as they obtain a visa and bring proof of negative COVID-19 test results.

Greece and Singapore were added to the list of approved travelers on January 28; Finland, Vietnam, India and Qatar had joined on January 25. The ban on flights from the UK is still in effect.

December 19 – Current COVID-19 situation

Russia is experiencing a severe spike in COVID-19 cases. According to local authorities, medical services have come under a new strain as the death toll is reaching 600 cases per day.

November 28

On August 1, Russia resumed direct flights to Tanzania and Turkey. The U.K. Cuba, Serbia, and Japan were allowed to resume their flights from November 1 and Seychelles joined the club a few days later. At the moment, foreign nationals and residents from 15 countries are allowed entry.

Russia has been gradually reopening its borders after more than 7 months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

What are the entry requirements for Russia?

  • Must present proof in English or Russian-language that they have tested negative for the coronavirus in the past 72 hours to be allowed entry.
  • If foreigners or returning Russian citizens do not have proper test results, they will be required to submit to a PCR Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival. If the PCR outcome is positive, self-isolation for 14 days will be required.
  • Russians returning to their home country from other countries are expected to comply with a 14-day quarantine.
  • Russian nationals are required to complete an entry form on the gosuslugi.ru portal and then upload their PCR test results within 72 hours of arrival in Russia.

Only essential travel is recommended by the CDC. Travelers at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should definitely reconsider their travel plans to Russia.

  • Foreigners in need of medical treatment,

  • Foreigners who have jobs that are categorized as “highly qualified specialists” professions,

People should continue to practice infection control methods even though Moscow does not require residents to wear a mask while walking on the street.

Residents can walk around Moscow without Contact Tracing or a Digital Pass to identify if they have had any close contacts with positive Covid-19 patients.

However, residents are encouraging residents to maintain a social distance of 1.5 meters (6 feet). Visitors could be fined for noncompliance.

Masks and gloves are required on public transportation, inside stores, or inside any public buildings.

Schools, including universities, and many businesses are expected to be opened soon. Tourists can expect movie theaters and concert halls open with limited capacity permits.
