10 houses in Guihulngan City on lockdown due to new COVID-19 case

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 15 (PIA) — Around ten houses in a purok in Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City are now on lockdown after one person who was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 was reported to have direct contact with her family.

This was announced by Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion in a press briefing at the IATF Media Briefing Area at the Perdices Coliseum.

Estacion said the COVID-19 positive patient who was believed to have close contact with her family is the newest confirmed case of corona virus infection recorded in Guihulngan City.

The health official clarified that the neighborhood placed under lockdown is the area where the patient and the patient’s family live.

Estacion didn’t reveal specific details about the lockdown as she said other details are still sketchy, but she assured that health authorities are investigating how the patient was able to make contact with her family.

“Wa ko kabalo unsa’y means na nagkahalubilo sila basta ang nahibal-an naa lockdown (I don’t have the specific details as to how she made contact with her family for now but I know there is a lockdown),” she said.

The latest COVID-19 patient in Guihulngan City is a 38-year old female resident of Brgy. Poblacion, who is a direct contact of the 79-year old male resident of the city and his son-in-law who were both confirmed to have contracted the virus.

The 79-year old male is still admitted in a private hospital in Dumaguete while his son-in-law is still in the Local Government Unit (LGU)-designated isolation facility.

All the three patients are locally stranded individuals.

Estacion noted that the third COVID-19 patient in Guihulngan City might have encountered the first two positive patients in the barge while en route to Negros Oriental or during their health assessment in their city.

They all arrived in the province on June 19, 2020.

However, she also cited that the third patient came from Cogon Pardo, Cebu where high cases of COVID-19 was also recorded.

The third COVID-19 patient in Guihulngan City was supposed to end her 14-day quarantine at the LGU-designated quarantine facility on July 3.

However, the result of the swab test of the 79-year old’s son-in-law came out that day.

Swab samples from the patient were taken on July 7 and were sent to Cebu City for confirmatory tests, the results of which came out yesterday.

She is now placed in the LGU-quarantine facility and is asymptomatic.

Estacion said contact tracing has started and more than 10 persons are estimated to be covered by the contact tracing.

With this update, the number of COVID-19 recorded cases in the province is now at 61, including the past cases with 36 active cases, 22 recoveries, and three deaths.

Meanwhile, Estacion also announced that another batch of swab samples were collected from the 21 soldiers of the Philippine Army infected with COVID-19 yesterday and were sent to Cebu for another round of confirmatory tests.

She hopes that the results of the swab tests of the Philippine Army soldiers will turn out negative so they can be released from the isolation facility identified by the provincial government.

All of them are now asymptomatic and those who experienced symptoms of mild Influenza-like Illness (ILI) have recovered. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
