Abra PLGU  ferries home more    LSIs from Baguio, Benguet

BAGUIO CITY, July 11(PIA) — The Provincial Government of Abra continues to send back returning workers and students in Baguio City and Benguet,  at the same time brings home locally stranded individuals.

At least four residents of Abra who are   studying and working in Baguio City and Benguet arrived here on Wednesday (July 7) from Bangued. Upon arrival, the they underwent   medical check-up and x-ray at the city’s Saint Vincent Central Triage   as part of the measures adopted by the city government of Baguio for returning residents including overseas Filipinos and LSIs.  

The bus of the provincial government of Abra ferried returning workers and students back to Baguio City on Wednesday, July 8, the same bus was used to ferry LSIs going back to Abra. The vehicles that brought the four Abrenians here ferried back home to Abra ten LSIs in Baguio City and Benguet. These are students, displaced workers and other individuals looking for job opportunities who were caught in the lockdown during the start of the enhanced community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March this year.

The LSIs coordinated with their respective local government units in Abra and applied for medical certificates and travel passes from the city government of Baguio before being allowed to go back to Abra.

The Abra provincial government continues to send sweeper buses to   fetch LSIs in different areas in Luzon who want to go back home to their families and homes in Abra.

Cassarene Fernandez from Bucloc in Abra and a student at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad thanked the provincial government of Abra for providing the bus for her and the other residents who are coming back to Baguio City after staying with their families in Abra in the past several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that she came back to BSU to prepare and submit the needed documents.

Jinky Talingdan, also of  of Bucloc and a worker in a hotel in the city, is very thankful to the Abra LGU for the transportation  it provides  Abrenian who are going back to their work and those who are going back home to the province.

“Agyamanak la unay ken Governor Joy Bernos ken ti provincial government ti Abra ta adda programa nga agited da byahe para ti taga Abra. Isuda iti way tapnu naka subli ak manen it trabaho kun manipud idi lockdown (Thank you very much  to Governor Joy Bernos and the Provincial Government for the transportation it  provides for the people of Abra. Thru this program, I am able to go back to my work in Baguio City),” Talingdan said.

Meanwhile, Mylen Lantes, guardian of two of the LSIs, thanked provincial LGU for accommodating her nieces to go back home to their homes in Luba town.  She said her nieces came to visit her in Baguio on March and they planned to look for job opportunity in the city unfortunately, they were caught in the nationwide lockdown.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa local na gobyerno ng Abra at Baguio sa programang nagpapauwi ng mga stranded na taga-Abra mula dito sa Baguio kahit may pandemya (I am thankful to the provincial government of Abra and Baguio that they have a program that allows stranded residents go back home from Baguio City despite the pandemic),” Lantes said.

Last weekend,  at least 33 LSIs from Metro Manila were sent back home to Abra thru the Hatid Tulong program of the national government by providing assistance to LSIs such as transportation in going to their home provinces pending the resumption of public transportation.

Abra Gov. Bernos vowed to bring home the stranded residents of Abra who were caught in their areas during the community quarantines. She encourages the LSIs to coordinate with their respective LGUs and the province of Abra for them to be ferried back home to their respective hometowns in Abra. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)

 

Upon arrival, the LSIs underwent triage including medical check-up and x-ray at the city’s Saint Vincent Central Triage before being allowed back to the city as part of the measures by the city government of Baguio to returning residents, LSI and returning overseas Filipino workers (ROFs).

 

The returning residents are students and workers who are coming back to Baguio City and nearby towns of Benguet after they opted to go home to their hometowns in the province of Abra during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in March.

 

They came back to Baguio City thru the program of the Abra LGU which have been ferrying LSIs and ROFs from the different destinations to and from Abra since the nationwide lockdowns.
