Aklan PPOC supports 2020 anti-terror law

KALIBO, Aklan, June 27 (PIA) —  The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) here, in its 2nd Quarterly meeting held recently, approved a resolution expressing support for the passage of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

The resolution was approved on motion of Aklan Police Provincial Office OIC Provincial Director Col Esmeraldo P. Osia, Jr. and duly seconded by Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) Coordinator Engr. Roger M. Esto.

The resolution stated that Senate Bill 1083 was approved on February 26, 2020 while the House of Representatives approved House Bill 6875, with both specified provisions of Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 amending the Human Security Act of 2007, with the aim to stop the widespread violence caused by terrorism, and safeguard the interest of citizens against the terrorists and criminals in the country.

The resolution also explained that Security is an utmost concern of the province and having such law assures that the citizens are protected from the influence of lawless elements and will help its efforts in laying the ground for lasting peace to usher in inclusive development of the local government units.

The Anti-Terror Bill law is also crucial in ensuring peace and order not only in the province but in the country as a whole and it will help create paths toward peace and development in the nation’s seat of government.

The PPOC explained that one of the roles and functions of the Council is to recommend strategic actions or activities aimed at promoting, improving, or enhancing peace and order and public safety measures including anti-insurgency measures within the areas of jurisdiction, thus, the resolution of support for the anti-terror law.

DILG-Aklan Provincial Director Engr. Carmelo F. Orbista certified for the correctness of the resolution, attested by Governor Florencio T. Miraflores, PPOC Chairperson and presiding officer.

The PPOC Meeting was held at the Conference Room of the Provincial Governor’s Office at the second Floor of the Capitol Building.
