City gov’t prepares 28 isolation units for ‘new arrivals’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 13 (PIA)–The city government has increased its isolation units to 28 with a combined bed capacity of 1,000 in anticipation of more returning Kagay-anons and a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases due to the city’s improved testing capability.

“It is their constitutional right to return home,” Mayor Oscar Moreno said when he was asked if the city government will continue receiving and taking care of workers from abroad and other returning Kagay-anons.

Moreno said it is the local government’s responsibility to make sure that those who return will be provided care in the City Isolation Units and tested before they are sent home to make sure COVID-19 will not be spread by the infected.

Rhyselle Descallar, CIU manager, said the isolation facilities are well-equipped and are manned by health workers and volunteers.

Descallar said the city government has set aside enough budget to shoulder the costs of accommodation, food, medical and psychosocial interventions, among others. (CIO/PIA10)
