PASIG CITY, Feb. 20 (PIA) — The Pateros Municipal Government’s COVID-19 vaccination preparedness has been hailed by the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) during their visit Friday.
In the event, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Response Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. lauded Pateros, the lone municipality in Metro Manila, for coming up with a comprehensive plan for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We congratulate Pateros for all their preparations. Even if the municipality has a small population, its preparations are very impressive,” said Galvez, following the team’s inspection and assessment of Pateros’ preparedness for the COVID-19 vaccine deployment.
The official also lauded the leadership of local chief executives in the National Capital Region (NCR), with the leadership of MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, in formulating their respective vaccination plans. Abalos is the presiding officer of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of the Metro Manila mayors and heads of various national agencies.
“We are impressed with the energy, commitment and leadership of the Metro Manila mayors with MMDA Chairman Abalos,” said Galvez.
Meanwhile, Abalos congratulated Pateros, under the leadership of Mayor Miguel Ponce III, for their vaccination plan.
The MMDA Chairman cited that Metro Manila is gearing up for its shift to modified general community quarantine (GCQ) from its existing general community quarantine status to open more economic activities.
“Whether we are under GCQ or MGCQ status, let us not lose sight of the safety and health protocols against COVID-19 such as wearing of face mask and face shield; frequent handwashing; observance of physical distancing; and use of alcohol to sanitize,” said Abalos
For his part, Pateros Mayor Ponce said the municipal government is embarking on a massive education campaign so that his constituents can really understand the vaccine.
“Our COVID-19 plan starts with pre-registration posted on social media sites, QR Code, or manual registration,” Ponce said.
As part of its cold chain preparation, Pateros has a cold storage with eight refrigerators and 12 vaccine carriers. It has also partnered with ORCA Solutions for storage and transport of vaccines requiring ultra-low temperature; and memorandum of understanding with a number of hospitals that would accept Pateros residents when needed.
