DA-SAAD continues to uphold government’s poverty reduction efforts

To help alleviate poverty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture distributed a total of PhP231,500 worth of aid to farmers in Brgy. Santa Cruz, Midsayap, Cotabato, a few weeks ago.

Twenty marginalized members of the Malamote Farmers’ Association and Upper Bulanan Farmers’ Association in the said area were the recipients of the intervention to help them survive this crisis.

Each of them has received two bags of upland rice seeds; two bags of urea fertilizers; two bags of complete fertilizers; one pack Pinakbet vegetable seeds and a pack of Sinigang vegetable seeds.

Moreover, the said farmer groups also received five knapsack sprayers.

DA 12 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen said that these interventions will help the said marginalized farmers surpass the challenge of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, SAAD projects continue to roll as farmers in the province of Sultan Kudarat were also showered with interventions from the DA’s flagship poverty alleviation project.

Two hundred forty farmers were able to receive various interventions.

In the municipality of Lebak, 15 farmers each received 13 Muscovy ducks while 45 of them each received 14 Muscovy ducks.

In Bagumbayan, there were also 60 farmers who received the same project. Fifteen farmers each received 13 Muscovy ducks while 45 of them were able to avail of 14 ducks.

For the municipalities of Senator Ninoy Aquino and Columbio, the same interventions were also dished out to the farmer-beneficiaries.

According to the SAAD Program implementers, PhP1,650,000 of fund was allocated for the said purpose in Sultan Kudarat.

One of the farmers who was able to get a share from this amount was Jeremy Carbonell, of Columbio.

“We can surely sustain our needs during this crisis because of this intervention,” he said.

Carbonell added that he and his fellow farmers will ensure to create positive results out of these projects.

“We will make sure that the number will be doubled soon, so that we can also help our fellow farmers,” the farmer said. # # # (CULAguillon, DA-RFO XII, RAFIS)
