DavNor IP villages get skills training for additional livelihood
DAVAO DEL NORTE, July 8 (PIA) – The Indigenous Peoples (IP) community in Barangay Sto. Niño, Talaingod have undergone various types of skills training conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in partnership with the 56th Infantry Battalion.
In line with the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Economic Cluster of EO 70 Ending Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), the skills trainings are intended to equip the IP communities with production skills for them to gain additional income and improve the living status in their community.
On May 25, 2020, 30 IPs in Sitio Kaylawan in Brgy. Sto Nino, underwent Broiler Chicken Meat Production training.
After a month of which, Kaylawan Women’s Association harvested a total of 181 heads of chicken ranging from 700 grams to 1 kilo each. The harvested products were bought by the Provincial Government of Davao Del Norte through Davnor Pasalubong Center.

Three other sitio or villages in Talaingod have also undergone this same training.
Likewise, on June 22, about 30 IPs in Sitio Salapion received bamboo handicraft production training that lasted for a week. The outputs of this training were bamboo furnitures such as sala set, bed, and bench, woven bamboo wall ply “Amakan”, and decorative woven bamboo wall ply “Decorative Amakan”.
Furthermore, on June 29, an opening ceremony of the skills training on Solar Nightlight and Post Lamp Assembly was conducted at Sitio Kaylawan, Barangay Sto. Niño, Talaingod, which, the solar lights produced from the completion of this training will be given to the IP community.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of the TESDA skills training on Bamboo Handicraft Making was conducted on the same day at Sitio Salapion where the members of Salapion Farmer’s Association and participants of the skills training expressed their gratitude for the additional livelihood given to their community.
