DepEd keen to hit target enrollee figure for this year
THE Department of Education (DepEd) is confident of reaching the adjusted target number of enrollees for school year (SY) 2020 to 20201, according to its report on Friday.
“We are optimistic that we can meet our adjusted target of 80 percent of last year’s (27.7M),” tweeted the DepEd.
A total number of 21,344,915 students from private and public schools were registered at the end of the enrollment period on Friday. In public schools, 20,147,020 enrollees have been registered, representing 88 percent of the SY 2019 to 2020 student population.
However, since there has been a lag in reporting of enrollment data, especially from private schools, these figures are not yet final.
DepEd will still accept late enrollees until the opening of classes on August 24, said Education Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo during the press briefing on Thursday.
As stated in Sec 5.D of DepEd Order No. 003, s. 2018, “A school may accept late enrollees, provided that the learner will be able to meet 80 percent of the prescribed number of school days for each school year and the quarterly requirement to pass the grade level as governed by latest existing applicable DepEd issuances.”
DepEd also expressed its appreciation to the general public, to the parents who continue to believe in the department and to President Rodrigo Duterte for his consistent support of education.
