DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 16 (PIA) — Dumaguete City has granted educational assistance of P12,000 per academic year to each student scholar in college.
The number of college students or scholars will increase to 452 from the current 417 recipients.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, chairperson of the Educational Assistance Board, approved to accommodate 35 additional recipients who are qualified to receive the educational aid of P6,000 per semester as determined by the City Social Welfare Office.
For this year, 82 recipients or scholars have already graduated, leaving just 82 slots available for college applicants.
The City’s Educational Assistance Program was launched in 2017.
Remollo expanded the program from 214 college students in the 1st batch and now expected to grow to 452 recipients/scholars for this academic year.
The mayor will propose a supplemental appropriation in addition to the P5-M budget as the means of investing in the youth so that more college students will be given the opportunity to secure a bright future for themselves and their families.
