GenTri opens isolation facility; houses COVID-19 positive cops, new cases

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite Jun 28 (PIA) — GenTri City Mayor Antonio Ferrer together with City Health Office head Dr. Jonathan Luseco led the launching of the newly-constructed isolation facility located in Barangay Santiago. 

The opening of the facility is very timely as the COVID-19 cases in the city is increasing, patients can now be isolated immediately, assessed and provided with proper medical attention and treatment until full recovery.

The air-conditioned facility is equipped with 50 hospital beds, disinfection chamber, comfort rooms, laundry site, pantry, and dining area.  Stocks of personal protective gears are ready for the use of the medical staff and health workers attending to COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, the Targeted Testing of police frontliners in the city resulted to 14 positive cases of the coronavirus in the police force. They are now admitted in the newly opened isolation facility with their condition closely being monitored by health workers.

City Police Chief PLtCol. Marlo Solero had requested augmentation force from the Cavite Provincial Police Office (CPPO) for maintaining peace and order in the city.

The Gen. Trias Police Station also announced the temporary suspension of issuance of PNP travel authority and clearance. 

“Issuance of travel pass and police clearance from the local police is (temporary) suspended while we are preparing for the online application system in the coming week,” PLtCol. Solero announced.

Cavite 6th District Representative Luis ‘Jonjon’ Ferrer IV said police frontliners are our heroes.  “Despite the threat of the COVID-19 they courageously and faithfully perform their sworn duties to serve and protect the people.”

As of June 25, 2020 the COVID-19 confirmed cases in the city rose to 54 cases with additional 10 new cases recorded, 24 recoveries, 25 active cases, and 5 deaths. The 14 GenTri cops found positive are not included in the new cases pending the result of the contact tracing being conducted.

“The public is strongly urged to strictly follow health protocols such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, regular hand washing, and staying at home unless going out for essential goods and services, or working in allowed industries. Vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, individuals 20 years and below, pregnant women and those with pre-existing medical conditions are advised not to go out of their houses unless extremely necessary,” Dr. Jonathan Luseco said.

The GenTri Covid Busters continues to conduct disinfection activities of public places such as public markets in Barangay Sampalukan and Manggahan, city hall, city health clinic, GenTri Police Station, BFP Office, and the public plaza to prevent further spread of the virus in the locality.

In support to disinfection activities, Representative Jonjon Ferrer distributed sanitizers and alcolhols to 33 barangays in the city. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/with reports from Dennis Abrina)
