LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, April 9 (PIA) — The intensified operations of the government anti-drug operatives led to the destruction of about P19.3 million worth of marijuana in Kibungan, Benguet during the Holy Week period.
Anti-drug operatives from the Benguet Provincial Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Maundy Thursday (April 1) uprooted and burned on-site about 600 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated value of Php 120,000.00 in Sitio Kilong, Poblacion, Kibungan.
Benguet PPO Provincial Director PCOL Reynaldo Pasiwen said aside from the fully grown marijuana plants, about 50 kilos of dried marijuana stalks with an estimated value of Php 6,000,000.00 were also found in the area and were burned on site.
Operatives located the plantation area which is a communal land thru information from a concerned citizen, Pasiwen said.
On April 3, operatives also destroyed 2,100 pieces fully grown marijuana plants cultivated in an estimated land area of 300 square meters at Sitio Tableo, Brgy Badeo. The MJ plants had standard drug price of Php 420,000.00. Found also within the site was a 10 kilogram dried marijuana stalks valued at Php 1, 200,000.00.
On the following day, at least 28,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants with an SDP of Php 5,600,000.00 were also uprooted by the operatives. In addition, a total of 50 kg abandoned dried marijuana stalks amounting to SDP of Php 6,000,000.00 were found.
The operations are part of the continuing intensified anti-drug operations being conducted by the government authorities to eradicate marijuana plantations in the province of Benguet. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
