Guimaras gets 1K sets of PPEs from OCD

ILOILO CITY, July 16 (PIA) – – The Office of Civil Defense 6 turned over 1,000 sets of personal protective equipment (PPEs) coming from the Department of Health (DOH) to frontliners in the island province of Guimaras.

Governor Samuel Gumarin received the PPEs from OCD 6 Director Jose Roberto Nuñez on July 15, 2020. Each set includes surgical masks, coveralls, gloves, goggles, and shoe and head covers.

Gumarin said the PPEs will be a big help in their fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Ang probinsya sang Guimaras nagapasalamat gid sa aton mga agencies, kay Director Nunez sa pag-ulikid sa aton mga frontliners (The province of Guimaras is grateful to our agencies, to Nuñez, for their concern to our frontliners),” said Gumarin in a press report of the Public Information Relations Section of the province.

Hundreds of frontliners were deployed by the provincial government to man the screening posts at all ports of entry and the quarantine facilities of the island province.

Being at the forefront of the fight against the virus, Gumarin said frontliners are one of the reasons why the island remains free from COVID-19 and that they should be equipped with personal protective equipment.

On Tuesday, the province clarified through a press report that the two Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) who tested positive for COVID-19 turned out negative in their second Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test.

Patients involved are a 25-year old female from Nueva Valencia town and a 27-year old male from San Lorenzo who were released at the quarantine facility in Iloilo City on July 12, 2020 after staying for 17 days but without the result of their RT-PCR.

According to the province’s report, the decision to release the said LSIs was based on the advisory of DOH on July 10, 2020 that states “Asymptomatic close contacts or individuals belonging to identified sub-groups (LSIs, OFWs, APOR) can be released from quarantine after 14 days as long as he/she remains asymptomatic for the entire quarantine period, even without testing or test results.”

However, hours after they arrived in Guimaras, the DOH – Center for Health and Development 6 released their COVID-19 bulletin which included the two LSIs from the province on the list of positive COVID-19 cases.

Immediately, the said LSIs were transferred to the Advance Quarantine Facility of the province and underwent RT-PCR test on July 13, 2020. Also, the Provincial Health Office started the contact-tracing.

On July 14, 2020, QualiMed Hospital in Iloilo City released the negative result of the second RT-PCR test of the said patients who were eventually released from the Advance Quarantine Facility of the province on Wednesday, July 15. (JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo)
