SAN FERNANDO CITY, Oct. 23 PIA) – Top officials of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (C.O.D.E.) Team lauded the efforts of the province of La Union in the fight against the pandemic.
NTF Chief Implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. led his team in a dialogue with the officials of the province of La Union headed by Provincial Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega III at the Agora Events Hall, Thunderbird Resort in this city on Thursday.
In his message, Sec. Galvez lauded measures of the provincial government of La Union in bringing the COVID-19 cases at a manageable level.
Currently, La Union has 11 active cases out of the 432 total confirmed COVID-19 cases.
“I’d like to congratulate Gov. Ortega. Sa pamumuno niyo nakikita natin ang numero, napakababa. Kaya ibig sabihin po nito, maganda po ang leadership niyo,” Galvez said.
He added that one of the key factors why La Union is one of the models in the implementation of health and safety measures and contact tracing is the cooperation among the leaders and the citizenry.
“La Union has learned its lesson from the pandemic and I commend the Ilokanos for showing discipline, hard work, diligence, great responsibility, especially their unity and solidarity in fighting this COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Further, Testing Czar and Bases Conversion and Development Authority President Vivencio Dizon also commended that La Union has unity in purpose in fighting COVID-19.
“Nakita po natin na napakaganda ng paraan ng pag-manage ng province of La Union sa pandemya, and I think it is mainly due to the leadership of Gov. Pacoy and how he has brought the entire province together to one common goal which is to defeat COVID-19,” Dizon said.
For his part, Ortega thanked the CODE Team for tirelessly developing the framework for national development that centers now on crisis recovery.
He then vowed full support of La Union, as a whole, to the endeavors of the CODE Team.
“We shall align our objectives and initiatives with that of the NTF against COVID-19, as we now venture into our journey of building a stronger La Union, a province worth living in,” the provincial governor said.
Other national officials who visited the province are Contact Tracing Czar and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Department of the Interior and Local Government USec. Jonathan Malaya, Dir. Gloria Balboa and ASec. Charade Mercado-Grande of Department of Health, and Michael Salamima of Metro Manila Development Authority.
Following the CODE visit, the officials attended the national launching of Measles, Rubella, Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activities at the La Union Provincial Capitol grounds. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
