KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Sept. 21 (PIA) – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office – Soccsksargen now accepts applicants for its new program, Project EASE.
Project EASE or the Educational Assistance through Scholarship in Emergencies aims to provide educational assistance to qualified college-level dependents of active OWWA member-OFWs whose employment were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project aims to provide educational financial assistance amounting to P10,000 per annum for a maximum of 4 years to a qualified dependent of an OWWA member-OFW with active membership status at the time of their repatriation to the country from the declaration of the outbreak last February 2020.
According to Regional Director Marilou Sumalinog, Project EASE as among the components of the OWWA CARE Program also aims to complement with the government’s effort to lessen the effects of the pandemic to the lives, employment, and livelihood of OFWs.
“We are now experiencing the new normal and there are so many things that have changed since early quarter of this year. Since then, our agency remains true to its mandate and we are driven more by our desire to develop and implement holistic programs and services to our modern heroes.” Sumalinog said.
“We are hoping that this new program shall help augment especially in the financial needs of our Filipino families with OWWA active members”, the official added.
Qualified beneficiaries are immediate dependents of OWWA active member-OFWs who are either incoming freshman or currently enrolled in College with passing marks in all subjects from the last School Year or Semester attended. The OFW couples who are both eligible for the program shall only be entitled to only one slot.
