KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, July 16 (PIA) — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has already released around P16 million in livelihood assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Region 12 or Soccsksargen since January this year.

A total of 811 distressed and displaced overseas Filipino workers in the region have been granted financial and livelihood aid through the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbubay Program (BPBH) of OWWA in the first semester of 2020, says Marilou Sumalinog, OWWA 12 director.

Director Sumalinog said the assistance includes cash assistance, financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, and other services to help them start livelihood.

The financial aid ranges from P5,000 to P20,000 under the OWWA’s reintegration program.

Besides the financial and training assistance, OWWA also refers the returning OFWs to other government agencies such as Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, and others for other assistance that could help develop and sustain the livelihood that the OFWs have chosen to take on.

“BPBH will not only give them income-generating projects but also provide them an inspiration to stay in the country and be the person in charge of their own businesses,” said Sumalinog.

Director Sumalinog noted that OWWA continues to release various livelihood and financial assistance amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even with the ongoing community quarantine, OWWA 12 have been visiting different local government units in the region to distribute aid directly to the OFWs.

Through this, Sumalinog said, they may be able to lessen the impact of displacement to the OFWs especially during these trying times.

An OFW BPBH-recipient may utilize their acquired skills for their chosen enterprises related to foods and drinks, online business, health and wellness, arts and crafts, green business, and many others.

For additional details, evaluation and necessary documentary requirements, qualified members are advised to visit OWWA Regional Welfare Office – Soccsksargen located at Ilao Bldg., Judge Alba Street, Brgy. Zone 3, Koronadal City or contact BPBH Hotline Numbers , 0997-3519-015/0909-2735-728. (ORVRivera with reports from OWWA 12)
