PGH can no longer accept severe, critical Covid cases — spokesman

THE Philippine General Hospital (PGH) can no longer accept severe and critical cases of Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), citing near full occupancy, its spokesman said on Thursday.

Jonas Del Rosario said that the Manila-based referral facility is “90-95 percent” full.

“We can’t accept severe or critical patients from other hospitals anymore because our ICU is already full,” he said on GMA Network’s morning program Unang Hirit on Thursday.

Del Rosario said the hospital was currently nursing 172 moderate, severe and critically ill patients who were “coordinately transferred” from other facilities.

Del Rosario assured, however, that hospital health workers were still adequate.

Earlier on Thursday, San Lazaro Hospital also announced that the hospital was 80 percent full.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the six district hospitals in the city were prepared to help San Lazaro and PGH.

“Our approach to Covid-19 should be a universal approach. We are happy to be of service to our sister hospitals San Lazaro and PGH,” said Domagoso when asked about their near full capacity.
