TUGUEGRAO CITY, Cagayan, April 20 (PIA) – Tuguegarao City students who belong to poor families received benefits from the Sagguniang Kabataan (SK) here.

Sangguniang Kabataan official of Barangay Annafunan East and SK Federation Vice-President Gerald Valdez said that their Project iSKolar, which was earlier launched in the said barangay, has now 24 scholars who are enjoying a cash benefit of P 2,000 per semester.

“Another one of our projects is Project eSKwela where we give learning materials and modules to students and offer free printing services,” Valdez added.

Project ORAS or free Online Research Access for Students is  another notable project of the SK here which offers free use of their desktops, printers, and WIFI for students who need to do research and printing. “We have two desktops and printers for students to use ,” he added.

The SK Federation’s Vice-President Gerald Valdez gives material donations to the local Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela.

While the Department of Education (DepEd) limited the face-to-face conduct of its Brigada Eskwela, the SK of Annafunan East extended their support to the agency by donating printers and boxes of bond papers. On the other hand, vulnerable groups, tricycle drivers associations, and teachers received hygiene kits.

In support to the Tuguegarao local government unit’s advocacy for the vaccination rollout, the SK here has its mobile information project where they go around the community while using a public address system to announce important advisories from the Department of Health and the city government.

Yesterday, Valdez led the continuation of the distribution of food assistance to indigent families affected by the granular lockdown while the city is under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Recently, he involved the SK in a financial literacy activity and created sustainable livelihood opportunities throught the NegoSyoKart, a Youth Entrepreneurship Support (YES) Program. This program aims to provide small livelihood packages to deserving indigent out-of-school youth as well as current students.

Valdez said that this will enable the beneficiares and their families to have additional income in order to support their financial constraints during the ongoing pandemic.

This year, Valdez is one of the finalists in the search for the Twenty Outstanding Youth Leaders in Cagayan. (JCK/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
