Assistant Provincial Health Officer and Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) Commander Dr. Liland Estacion confirmed this in an interview with the media at the sidelines of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force-Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-IED) meeting at the Negros Oriental Convention Hotel, this city.

Estacion said the results of their swab tests confirming they are infected with the virus arrived last night.

The first new case is a 21-year old female in Mabinay who came from Talisay City, Cebu.

She arrived at Tampi Port in Amlan on June 21 and she is staying in a local government unit (LGU) designated quarantine facility since her arrival in the province.

The second case is a 79-year old male in Guihulngan City who travelled from Brgy. Tisa in Cebu City.

The third case is a 66-year old female who hails from Brgy. Taclobo, this city who earlier underwent a medical treatment at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and arrived in Dumaguete City on June 10 where she stayed in a local hotel.

On June 14, she was transferred to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) where swab samples were taken from her.

Unfortunately, the patient died on June 23 while waiting for the result of her swab tests.

Estacion said contact tracing has already began, noting that the son-in-law and two grandchildren of the COVID-19 positive male patient in Guihulngan City, who were his companions, were already placed in an LGU-designated quarantine facility.

The said COVID-19 patient in Guihulngan City is also set for admission in one of the local hospitals in Dumaguete City after showing some symptoms related to the disease.

A post from the Guihulngan City Public Information Page revealed that the patient experienced mild sore throat and mouth sore which compelled health workers there to take swab samples from him.

City Public Information Officer Jill Delos Santos said the patient was considered immunocompromised and the patient’s family preferred to transfer him to a local hospital for further monitoring.

The patient and his companions arrived in Guihulngan City on June 19.

Meanwhile, Guihulngan City Legal Officer Karen Lisette Trinidad-Molas also shared a statement in her personal Facebook account which was also shared in the Guihulngan City Public Information Page.

Molas assured residents of the city that there was no breach of health protocols and the said patient and his companions were brought directly to the LGU quarantine facility.

Since their arrival, they have been isolated and has not set foot outside the facility.

“Patient is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and was taking predinisone, which is why he is considered immunocompromised,” Molas explained in her post.

Moreover, the medical technician and its assistant who administered the swab test were also put in a quarantine facility for health workers as an extra-precaution for them.

Molas also underscored that the city government is utilizing its available resources to complete the contact tracing.

With this update, Estacion said the recorded number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since last month is now at six and most of them are LSIs coming from Cebu.

She also made an appeal to returning LSIs to follow the provincial government’s quarantine protocols.

“Akong hangyo sa mga LSI na moabot, inig ingon gane quarantine, quarantine gyud mo. So that pagnag-positive less na ang contact tracing. Motuman ra gyud ta. You know in Cebu, unsa man storya sa Cebu? Ang ilang failure sa quarantine mao nidaghan sila. We don’t want to happen that in Negros Oriental (My appeal to returning LSIs, please don’t refuse if you are placed on quarantine. We are doing it so that in case there is a positive case, only a few people will be covered by the contact tracing. We just have to follow the protocols. They say Cebu failed in imposing quarantine that’s why their cases went up. We don’t want that to happen in Negros Oriental),” Estacion emphasized. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
