Prince Harry & Meghan are staying at the Carlyle, but not in the Royal Suite
Here are more photos from Prince Harry and “Madame Duchess” Meghan’s first full day in New York. They were up bright and early at One World Trade Center, where they did a photocall at the Observatory with the governor of New York and Mayor De Blasio. Then they went back down to the 9/11 Memorial and the fountain. They got a tour of the 9/11 Memorial from Patti Harris, CEO of Bloomberg, and Alice Greenwald, CEO of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. For all of the abject morons in the British press whining about how Meghan and Harry were “dressed for a funeral,” this is why they chose somber-looking clothes, as all of us knew yesterday. They knew they would be photographed at the 9/11 Memorial. They wanted to look somber and respectful. PS… Meghan’s ensemble is apparently Armani.
Leading the way with compassion & unity is at the heart of The Duke & Duchess of Sussex’s work, & a mission that is very much shared by the @Sept11Memorial. Today, I was glad to join @AliceGreenwald in welcoming Prince Harry & Meghan to the Museum & to learn more about their work pic.twitter.com/bONNCVDx4l

What else? After the visit to One World Trade Center and the memorial, the Sussexes went to the United Nations, where they reportedly had a meeting with US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield. They were back and forth from their hotel a few times by the look of it – they’re staying at the Carlyle, which is where Princess Diana stayed when she visited New York. Page Six notes that Diana usually stayed in the Royal Suite, which costs $8000 a night, but that sources confirmed to Page Six that Harry and Meghan were not staying in the Royal Suite. Interestingly enough, when William and Kate were in New York in 2014, they also stayed at the Carlyle. Dang – there are other luxury hotels in New York, you guys.
As Thursday progressed, the wails and salty commentary from across the pond grew louder and louder. By the time I checked in on the Daily Mail’s coverage, they were freaking out about: H&M’s “large security detail,” the jewelry Meghan wore, the “staggering” cost of the hotel, the idea that the Sussexes “dramatically quit” the UK, Meghan’s autumn clothing despite the warmer weather, the size of the UN ambassador’s penthouse, the Sussexes’ “gas-guzzling” SUVs, and the fact that Harry and Meghan ate at a fancy restaurant on Wednesday night when they arrived in the city. Whew… imagine being that mad over every single thing.
Start spreading the news, this is the cutest thing we’ve seen today: the engraving on Prince Harry’s portfolio, “Archie’s papa.”
