John Lloyd Cruz cites the disadvantages of being a matinee idol!

John Lloyd Cruz revealed the downside of being a matinee idol—said that there should be no room for mistakes!

On November 21, during an interview with Jessica Soho on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Cruz exposed a glimpse of his life as a matinee idol back in the days.

“Ewan ko kung ano nakikita nila. Madalas nabibisto nga ako sa mata ko, e. Dun ako nayayari, e. Pero madalas ibang kahulugan ang nabibigay. Ang totoo lang naman, inaantok lang naman ako.

“Iba talaga ang power ng pelikula. Magaling lang siguro yung mga direktor na bumuo ng mga characters ko. It is flattering, yes?” he stated.

“Pero may great danger na kalakip, e. Hahaha! Parang bawal ka magkamali, especially sa mata ng audience mo. I think yun ang kapalit nun.”

Cruz admitted he was careful with the characters he was portraying, saying he needed to avoid making errors.

“Itong pagkakataong ito, mas hindi ako mangangahog o maghahabol sa content na gusto ko. Hayaan ko sila na dumating nang kusa.”

He shared he is ready to go back to the mainstream scene.

“Yung mga naging pelikula na nagawa ko kay Lav Diaz, yung mga naidulot na experiences nun, di ko rin matatawaran, e.”

History Ni Ha is Cruz’s latest film that he did with Diaz. The movie premiered during the BFI London Festival in October 2021.

Soho asked him if he’s got a message for his younger self, Cruz answered: “Siguro I’ll tell him to be more patient. I’ll tell him na huwag i-impose yung truth niya sa lahat.”

On November 22, Cruz began taping for GMA network’s upcoming sitcom titled, Happy ToGetHer.
