The Songwriting Advice That Helped The Itchyworms Write Their Massive Hit “Beer”
(SPOT.ph) When OPM pop-rock group The Itchyworms came out with their major-label debut album in 2001, it wasn’t a massive hit. Little Monsters Under Your Bed was a mish-mash of different styles and, consequently, flew under the radar within the industry. It wasn’t until the band’s second studio album, Noontime Show, that The Itchyworms finally hit their stride and connected with listeners. Some of the popular tracks from the said album are “Akin Ka Na Lang,” “Love Team,” and “Beer.”

Lead vocalist Jazz Nicolas shares an advice from his dad when they were just starting out in OG’s debut episode OG Presents: 25 Years of The Itchyworms. “‘Yong mga songs niyo, masyadong kumplikado, di yan kayang kantahin ng masa. Dapat makagawa kayo ng kantang ano, kayang kantahin ng mga lasenggo sa kanto.” Perhaps that insight helped them in coming up with catchy songs moving forward.
