(SPOT.ph) Local fast-food chain Jollibee might be best known for their crispy-juicy fried chicken and drool-inducing burgers—but true connoisseurs know that their dessert game is every bit as A+. One of those desserts is their famous Peach Mango Pie, which tempts with its crisp-crackly crust and vibrant, fruity filling. So we couldn’t be more excited as we found out Jollibee’s just come out with a new addition to their sweet lineup: The Strawberry Cheese Pie. A drool-worthy premise, of course, is one thing—but how does this new treat actually fare?

We tried the new Strawberry Cheese Pie of Jollibee and here’s what we think:

Much like its peach-mango sibling, Jollibee’s Strawberry Cheese Pie (P35/piece, P199/pack of six) arrives warm—and you’ll want to eat it right away, or reheat it if you’re saving it for later. It’s truthfully also on the small side, roughly the size of our small-to-average palms—though considering the pie itself is quite rich in flavor this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. (Portion control, folks!)

They’re admittedly on the small side, but this ain’t necessarily a bad thing.

On the outside is Jollibee’s signature pie crust—that same crisp, golden-brown pastry (albeit with a red marking) that makes a welcome crackle as you sink your teeth in. And as you take a bite, you’re met with the strawberry-cheese part of the equation by way of the filling. Thankfully, it does look like the product photo—expectations more or less meet reality—with one side of the filling being a bright red strawberry jelly of sorts, and the other side being an off-white cream to represent the cheese.

True to its name, this pie’s got a filling of a strawberry jelly and cheesecake-esque cream.

The strawberry bit is loosely comparable to jam, but thicker and smoother (and slightly goopier) in consistency—and though we wish there were more tartness in there, we appreciate that it’s not too sweet. The cheese, on the other hand, has a more velvety feel on the tongue, and a lightly tangy profile that’s reminiscent of cheesecake. Both parts manage to balance each other out for a fruity-creamy whole—which, combined with the slightly-salty crust, makes for a pretty well-rounded sweet snack or dessert.

Admittedly, we remain loyal to the good ol’ Peach Mango version. But you know what they say about variety being the spice of life—and this new pie gives you a great way to change things up when you’re looking for a sweet ending when at Jollibee.
