We’ve done a bit of research and put together some recent articles and government statements about the summer plans.

USA, CENTRAL AMERICA and CARIBBEAN

As of June 8th, popular Mexican and Caribbean destinations are now open to tourists.

This includes Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, and even Los Cabos are open. Airlines in the U.S. are still hesitant to fly internationally, but many are starting to book international flights for mid-July.

Huge discounts are offered to anyone desiring to visit these vacation hotspots, including “two-for-one” deals that allow you and a guest to essentially stay for half the cost at some exclusive resorts.

The discounts are on more than just hotels and resorts too. The discounts are for activities and car rentals. You could go to Cancun for half or less of what it once cost.

JAMAICA & BAHAMAS – Opening

Not to be left behind when Mexico and Cancun reopened, Jamaica and The Bahamas reopened a week later.

Cruise ports are still closed, but you can grab your passport and an airline flight to these island nations for sun and fun. Travelers have to present the test results for a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction test no more than ten days before entering the country.

If you visit after July 1st, no test will be required. You will still have to follow a series of safety protocols and your travel will be limited to the “visitor corridor,” a series of resorts and beaches kept safe and secure for tourists only. Discounts are offered when you book flight and resort packages.

Bermuda – Post Covid Opening to the U.S.

Do you have cabin fever from quarantining in your home? Why not practice social distancing in Bermuda with your own private cottage or villa?

As of July 1, Bermuda is open to the U.S. The white, sandy beaches, colorful scenery, and tranquil atmosphere makes it a popular place to come to relax.

A negative COVID test is required before traveling, and there will be regular temperature checks, as well as mask-wearing, sanitizing, and social distancing to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy during your trip.

Cuban Keys Opening

Cuba’s Reopening Plan Only Allows Tourists on Specific Small Islands, Away From Locals

You will be able to visit the Cuban Keys including Cayo Largo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo, and Cayo Santa María. All of the islands open to tourists are more remote and away from locals to help contain the spread of the virus.

Though you can take a charter flight to the island you are visiting, commercial flights to Cuba remain closed until August 1.

Travelers are not allowed to rent cars or take trips outside of resort areas, and people taking the bus from central Cuba will not be permitted to get off until they have reached their destination. Each hotel has medical staff on standby to monitor their guests’ health.

EUROPE:

Ryanair is the largest low-cost airline in Europe and they have released some great news this week!

They are going to start operating approx. 40% of their flight schedule by July with great launch sale. One-way fares will be around $32.93 (€29.99)$32.93 (€29.99) but must be booked soon!

Amazing news also coming from the European Commission.

There will be a controlled reopening of tourism in between countries with similar numbers of Corona cases in order to enforce and boost the tourism industry in the summer.

ITALY

Travel vouchers are expected to be released on the official Sicily’s tourism website.

The Croatian economy is also highly dependent on tourism! Therefore, the government has started taking 1st steps and offering discounts to local citizens and will also try to RE-OPEN for tourism in July or August.

The catch is that not all countries are allowed to come but sooner or later they will open to more tourists from different countries. It all depends on how many COVID cases are in your countries and how potentially contagious visitors from there can be.

The government of Spain has been asked by Small and Medium Size Businesses Assossiancon in Mallorca to introduce a 30 euros flat rate discount for ferries and flights from Mainland in Spain to save tourism.

Canary Islands could reopen as soon as Monday – but not to UK holidaymakers – by Mirror.co.uk

The only island that had casualties was Tenerife.

The rest of the Canary Islands ended up with very few cases and no deaths due to Coronavirus.

Therefore, local governments are preparing to lift travel restrictions at the end of May and starting to open beaches and restaurants.

PORTUGAL

Portugal ready to welcome back tourists, says government – by Reuters.com

Portugal is getting a situation with COVID-19 under control and according to the government, they will start opening borders to tourism in June. Hotels and hostels in Portugal are offering super low prices trying to attract more tourists.

This includes free testing to international travelers from the United States, and no quarantine restrictions for Brits starting July 1st.

GREECE

According, World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) President & CEO Gloria Guevara, Greece might be one of the first countries opening their borders for tourism in Europe.

Where you might have paid high international taxes on a trip to Greece before, you will now pay almost nothing in taxes.

It is Greece’s way of trying to get their tourist economy jump-started again. The U.S. and UK are considered “high risk” and may be refused entry for tourist reasons.

CYPRUS

MALTA

Commercial flights in and out of Malta have already resumed. Many of the flights landing and leaving Malta are the same flights that are coming and going out of several other EU nations.

EU nationals can travel freely among the countries listed at a discount, but international tourists may only be limited to travel to and/or from one or two of the allowed countries to limit any possible transmission of the virus. International tourists will not be allowed entry into any of these countries until after July 15th.

BULGARIA

Although this is a Brit-run resort, it will not be occupied with many Brits. The Brits are experiencing higher counts of the virus, which is why they are being restrained from travel and cautioned against traveling. This leaves Sunny Beach open for many other tourists, including other EU tourists.

To encourage tourists to come to Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach, lots of special social-distancing practices are in place, including placing beach chairs and umbrellas six or more feet apart and booking the resort at fifty percent capacity. An example of how cheaply you can visit Bulgaria is in the cost of a three-course dinner for two with wine, for twenty-two pounds, fifteen pence, or the American equivalent of $27.35. The cost of this meal deal is now even lower to encourage visitors to Bulgarian beaches.

ICELAND

Iceland Also Offers Free COVID Tests to Visitors by insider.com

Iceland is accepting tourists, but most of them are only Schengen passport holders from EU countries. However, if you can prove with documentation that you are COVID-free, you can enter the country and enjoy your stay.

When you land, you can get a free COVID test to confirm what your documentation already shows, and this helps with avoiding the two-week quarantine you would be forced to endure without enjoying a vacation or being allowed to leave Iceland. Favorite vacation spots, like Iceland’s Blue Lagoon and resorts, are offering discounts to travelers who are allowed to stay and play without quarantining.

ASIA:

Maldives Opening to tourists with deals

If you are tired of the COVID crisis and worrying about social distancing, there is one nation of islands opening their doors with no restrictions.

As of July, the Maldives are now open for all travelers to enjoy. Tourists will not have to quarantine or social distance in the Maldives.

You will forget about the troubles of the COVID world while soaking up the sun and wading in the blue waves.

THAILAND opening – All you need to know

With its ancient cities and temples, great food, and beautiful landscapes Thailand is a popular attraction. Thailand is opening to international travelers on August 1, in Phase 3 of the government’s reopening plan.

Travelers will go through a preliminary health screening, and be required to wear masks on planes and airports. There will also be thermal temperature checks upon arrival to the airport to ensure the safety of everyone.

Thailand is opening most likely in July and it’s ready to welcome tourists. It will most likely start only with visitors coming from countries where coronavirus is under control.

JAPAN

St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Bequia Beach Hotel

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar sits on a white sand beach and has nine restaurants, three pools, and other amenities. A short flight from most major cities on the East coast, this is one of the most popular resorts on the island.

The resort is offering all-inclusive packages that include daily food and beverage, complimentary golf, 10% off spa treatments and daily use of tennis courts and equipment. This offer is valid for stays of three nights or longer and lasts through December 31, 2020.


Expedia.com data shows that travelers heading to San Francisco found on average around 25% cheaper rates than this same time last year. New York City, Orlando, Washington, DC, and Phoenix are serving up rates that are on average around 10% to 15% cheaper than last year.

Some of the most expensive tourist-heavy destinations in the United States are offering the deepest discounts for travel during the affected period. Florida, a state that depends heavily on tourism has been especially generous in its discounts. With the closing of the Walt Disney World resort indefinitely, the state is scrambling to get people to come and spend money in the many restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues.

Cities like San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C. and Phoenix are offering hotel discounts across chains of up to 20% of their normal rack rates. They are also throwing in extra perks and loyalty points.

Melia Hotels is offering discounts of up to 45% on stays at any of its locations around the globe. With more than 350 properties across several countries, this is a huge saving for savvy travelers. They are also relaxing their cancellation penalties.

With a collection of more than 750 hotels in 85 countries, Preferred Hotels & Resorts is one of the biggest collection of resorts and hotels on the globe. They are offering discounts on the European Staycation Series that include a number of hotels in Ireland and Spain. Travelers can enjoy up to 5,000 free bonus points in the brand’s loyalty program plus up to 40% off hotel stays.

Mexico’s resorts are also offering deep discounts. Hotel Esencia in Riviera Maya is offering a third night free during May or June. Guests can also choose from unlimited spa treatments as an alternative to the free third night.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manhattan is offering rooms for $118 a night, more than 30% less than their lowest usual rate. New York, which depends heavily on tourism, is offering the deepest deals. The city, which has canceled all gatherings of 500 people or more, is reeling after the lights on Broadway have effectively gone dark. All Broadway shows are canceled until further notice, but travelers can still find great deals on restaurants and other smaller attractions.

Coronavirus Train and Bus Deals & Price Drops Examples

Many travelers are excited about slashed flight prices but are nervous about dealing with airports and crowds during the apex of this outbreak. Many are turning to rail and bus service instead.

Amtrak recently announced the cancellation of Acela express service between New York City and Washington, D.C., after New York became the epicenter of the virus in the United States. Nevertheless, there are still great deals to be had on this nationwide rail carrier.

Amtrak is offering discounts of 25% off Amtrak Cascades, a route that serves the Pacific Northwest. They are also offering 20% off on select cross-country routes as many travelers are leery of air travel at this time.

20% off fares on the scenic California Zephyr train which travels from Chicago, Illinois to Emeryville (San Francisco) California. The auto train from Lorton, Virginia(Washington, D.C.) to Sanford (Orlando) Florida is also on the list of trains offering huge discounts.

As of right now, there are no reported deals on Greyhound or Megabus service, but newbie Flixbus is offering routes from San Diego to Los Angeles for as little as $4.99 each way. Other great rates include Los Angeles to Las Vegas for $14.99 each way and Phoenix to Las Vegas for $19.99 each way.
