Loads of misinformation on social media has suggested some potential discrimination against people who, for a variety of reasons, will not be able to take the coronavirus vaccine.

It’s been said that such individuals may be unable to freely book tickets and travel around. The truth is that most open countries also take visitors who can produce a negative COVID-19 test.

Countries and territories open to vaccinated travelers

Cuba

Cuba has remained largely undiscovered for both political and pandemic reasons. But now, its colonial cities, white sand beaches and traditional music bands attract tourists from all over the world.

Starting January 5, a negative RT-PCR test performed no later than 72 hours before travel to Cuba is required, in addition to proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Travelers from South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi, and Mozambique must submit proof of vaccination and three COVID-19 tests, one of them prior to departure to the island and two more while undergoing a 7-day quarantine. 

Panama

Vaccinated visitors must present proof of having received a full series of a vaccine at least 14 days prior to arrival in Panama. All vaccines approved by the WHO, FDA, or EMA are accepted in the country.

Unvaccinated travelers must also present a negative COVID-19 test (PCR or Antigen) within 72 hours prior to traveling to Panama or be tested at the airport at their own expense and quarantine for 72 hours when awaiting the results.

If the test is positive, the quarantine period will be extended to 10 days.

Regardless of their immunization status, all travelers must fill out and sign an electronic sworn affidavit   prior to check-in. 

Singapore

Home to a world of architectural wonders and culinary delights, Singapore is open for fully vaccinated visitors from Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States under their Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) free-quarantine program. 

Transport Minister S. Iswaran said in Parliament this week that Singapore will launch more quarantine-free travel arrangements over the months to come.

“Our goal is to restore quarantine-free travel with more countries and regions as allowed for by the public health assessment,” he said. 

Entry requirements

  • Valid proof of vaccination issued in any VTL country/region or Singapore
  • A negative test result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 48-hours prior to departure
  • A second PCR test on arrival

To be granted entry, visitors must have only visited or transited through any VTL countries/regions and/or Singapore in the 14 days prior to departure for Singapore.

Portugal´s ​historic cities, world-famous cuisine, breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, and nearby tropical-like islands are open for vaccinated travelers

Entry requirements:

Portugal is one of the few countries offering multiple options for visitors to meet their entry requirements. 

Arrivals can present, 

  • An EU Digital Vaccination Certificate, or
  • A negative PCR COVID-19 test performed at least 72 hours before boarding, or
  • A rapid antigen test (TRAg), performed within 48 hours of boarding
  • Also, a Passenger Locator Card must be completed and submitted before taking off. 

Only passengers who test positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for 10 days.

Turkey

The ruins of ancient civilizations, beaches, majestic mountains, small picturesque towns, and massive cosmopolitan cities should be reasons enough for fully vaccinated travelers to come visit this unique country.

Entry requirements:

  • Proof of vaccination
  • A negative PCR COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to arrival or a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken at most 48 hours before arrival.
  • (PCR and/or serology) is required for visitors over the age of 12 years old who are unable to show proof of vaccination.
  • The “Traveler Entry Form” must be completed and presented at check-in and upon arrival.

Note: Passengers from Afghanistan, Brazil, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken at most 72 hours before arrival.

Aruba

This colorful Caribbean Dutch Island is open for fully vaccinated tourists from most countries worldwide.

Entry requirements:

  • Negative Covid-19 test taken 3 days to 4 hours prior to travel to Aruba. The type of test depends on the traveler’s country of departure. Check them here.
  • Registration on Aruba Health App to upload visitors’ test results during the ED Card online registration process. Travelers need to have it verified prior to departure to Aruba.
  • Certain eligible travelers who meet some Aruba requirements may provide proof of vaccination instead of testing. 

Quarantine is only needed when the visitor tests positive on arrival. 

Armenia

Fully vaccinated adrenaline seekers should put Armenia on their travel bucket list. Due to the mountainous terrain and great weather, Armenia is “the” place for extreme sports including paragliding and skiing.

Entry Requirements:

  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours prior to arrival, or
  • A vaccine certificate showing the last dose was taken at least 14 days before entering the country.
  •  Travelers visiting from Russian should present the certificate through “Путешествую без COVID-19” mobile application.

Visitors need to take a COVID-19 test on arrival and quarantine until their results return negative.

Bali 

There is no bad time to explore sunny Bali and its vast nature, biodiversity, culture, temples, and beaches.

This resort island reopened for fully vaccinated visitors from 19 countries on Oct.14. Entry restrictions are a bit of a hassle but nothing that cannot be done.

Entry requirements:

  • Proof of vaccination via the PeduliLindungi app
  • Proof of health insurance that includes COVID-19 expenses with a coverage of at least US$ 100,000 
  • 7-day mandatory quarantine and booking confirmation from one of the 35 government-approved facilities to do so.
  • A negative COVID-19 test taken within 72-hours of their initial departure
  • A negative COVID-19 test taken on day fourth of their quarantine
  • Agree to submit to a health screening at the airport, which may include another PCR test.

Thailand

Vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers can now visit 4 destinations in Thailand under its “Sandbox” program. 

Vaccinated visitors must observe a 7-day hotel quarantine while the unvaccinated must undergo a 10-day hotel quarantine.

Finland

Finland is open to fully vaccinated tourists from all countries.

To be eligible, visitors must have received the last dose of a Pfizer-BionTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinopharm, COVISHIELD or CoronaVac vaccine at least 14 days prior to arrival. Other vaccines will not be accepted.

To date, unvaccinated visitors are permitted entry for essential reasons only.

Children traveling with vaccinated parents can also enter. “A person who can provide the aforementioned certificate may enter the country accompanied by an under-age child of whom they have permanent custody. The health security measures of the under-age child are determined according to the health safety guidelines that are in force at the time, ” according to the Finnish Border Guard.

Canada

Canada has reopened its borders to fully vaccinated international travelers from most countries. 

All travelers must download ArriveCAN (app or web portal) to upload their vaccine certificates. If eligible, they will no longer need to quarantine on arrival.

Passengers are currently permitted to land at the following five additional Canadian airports:

  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport
  • Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport
  • Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport; and
  • Edmonton International Airport.

Schengen Area

Some European and Schengen Area countries have been imposing restrictions on and off. However, most EU countries are open for fully vaccinated visitors.

The EU council has advised its member states to lift their travel ban on South African countries as of Jan. 10.

England

England

The UK is open to vaccinated visitors from most countries. From January 7, fully-vaccinated travelers will not be required to take a COVID-19 test before they travel to England from abroad.

They will still be required to purchase a COVID-19 test to take after arriving in the UK. 

The UK has lifted its travel ban on Southern African nations.

Ireland

Travelers eager to take a trip across Ireland’s astonishing landscape and beautiful small villages can come back to the country if fully vaccinated.

Both vaccinated travelers or those who have recovered from the virus will no longer need to show a negative PCR test prior to departure. Unvaccinated travelers must present a negative PCR test before departure. 

Grenada

This Caribbean island has reopened for fully vaccinated tourists.

All visitors must complete the Pure Safe Travel Certificate.  

Other entry requirements:

  • Confirmed reservation at an approved accommodation. 
  • People aged 5 and older must present a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) taken within 72 hours (3 days) of travel to Grenada. 

Italy

Italy, one of the most iconic European destinations of the last 2,000 years, is open for tourism to multiple countries including the U.S., Canada and Japan.

For now, fully vaccinated travelers from a number of countries are allowed entry. These must get Italy’s Green Pass

Visitors unable to produce a valid vaccination or recovery certificate will have to self-isolate on arrival for five days and undergo a molecular PCR or rapid antigen test at the end of their quarantine.

Morocco

This hot African destination is open to vaccinated travelers from multiple countries from June 15. 

The government created two lists for people visiting Morocco. List A gathers countries with “a stable epidemiological situation” and list B, those unable to control the pandemic so far. 

Travelers from list A need to submit a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination and those coming from list B must additionally quarantine at a government-approved hotel. (Source: Morocco Gov).

Greece

Its internationally celebrated islands, pristine sugar-sand beaches with crystal-clear waters, lakes, forests, mountains and history should be enough for travelers to put Greece on their bucket. 

Starting Dec. 19, travelers to Greece will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours or rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of arrival.

Testing requirements apply to all visitors aged 5 or above regardless of vaccination status or port of entry to Greece. 

Spain

The world-renowned cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville, plus the Mediterranean beaches in Costa Del Sol, Tenerife, the Balearic Islands and Costa Brava are just a few of the places vaccinated visitors can enjoy from June 7 in Spain. 

The list of documents that accredit health requirements is not difficult to get. One of these 3 should be enough to be welcomed to Spain: 

  • Certificate of being fully vaccinated
  • A negative COVID19 test certificate is no longer needed 
  • Additionally, all travelers must present a QR code that can be obtained through the Spain Travel Health portal or by downloading the SpTH app in Google Play or App Store for each traveler.

France

Being allowed to visit France depends on the traveler’s country of departure. Coming from an EU country is not the same as visiting from a third-party country. 

France divided countries into “Green” “Orange or Amber” and “Red” categories.

Anguilla

Anguilla reopened its doors to vaccinated travelers after a temporary spike in cases that forced authorities to close the country’s borders. 

All people traveling to Anguilla must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 3-5 days prior to arrival in Anguilla.

Everyone will be tested on arrival and must quarantine until they receive their negative results. (Usually 24 hours).

The British Virgin Islands

Consistently rated as a collection of the most exclusive islands in the world, this British overseas territory is now open for vaccinated tourists without quarantine requirements. 

Visitors who have received two doses of a vaccine against COVID-19 don’t need to quarantine, if the test they must take on arrival returns negative. 

This is the complete list of updated rules vaccinated travelers need to follow to enter the British Virgin Islands:

  • BVI Gateway Traveler Authorization Certificate at a cost of $175.00.
  • Proof of a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test taken 3-5 days before arrival
  • Proof of vaccination status.
  • RT-PCR COVID-19 testing upon arrival and quarantine if the test returns positive. 
  • A seven-day quarantine period and;
  • RT-PCR COVID-19 negative test on day 7.

Georgia

Vaccinated travelers from all countries have been welcomed back to visit this paradise for hiking and camping lovers called Georgia since last year. 

Vaccinated visitors travelers must present both proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before arrival in Georgia.

Unvaccinated travelers must additionally complete an application form prior to arrival with contact details and travel history.

Those with travel history to Southern African countries must observe a 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Tahiti

The Islands of Tahiti have decided to waive quarantine requirements for travelers who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 or can demonstrate they have recently recovered from the illness. 

This benefit will take effect from today (May 1). The government also announced U.S. travelers will be welcome back to the country starting this week. 

There are a couple of important rules travelers need to be aware of, though. All visitors still need to bring a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 before arrival. If they don’t do it, they will need to undergo a 10-day quarantine. Additionally, families with children aged 6 to 16 need to quarantine too since those are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Bahamas

The Bahamas is open to both, vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers

Vaccinated arrivals will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test (either a Rapid Antigen Test or RT-PCR), taken no more than (72 hours) prior to arrival in The Bahamas.

Unvaccinated visitors aged 12 and older must present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR (including PCR, NAA, NAAT, TMA or RNA) test taken no more than three days (72 hours) prior to the date of arrival.

Barbados

Vaccinated travelers can visit Barbados ONLY IF they have received one the four government-approved vaccines 14 days prior to their trip. These are AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson.

Visitors will still need to agree to a couple of quarantine days at their own expense while waiting for the COVID-19 test that must be taken upon arrival. Once travelers receive their negative results they will be free to enjoy the entire island country with only a few restrictions.

Travelers from EU countries must present a negative COVID-19 test a vaccine certificate. 

Nepal

Nepal closed its borders to international travelers on May 5 following a spike in coronavirus cases. As of today, the country is only open to visitors from China, Qatar, Turkey and the U.S.

All travelers must obtain a tourist visa from a Nepali diplomatic mission in their home countries. 

Allowed visitors must submit a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours before arrival, undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine, and get retested a few times during their time in isolation.

Ecuador

All visitors who can produce a COVID-19 vaccine certificate issued 14 prior to arrival will be welcomed not only to the mainland but also to the renowned Galapagos Islands without quarantine. 

They must also present proof of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel to Ecuador.

Montenegro

Montenegro is open for vaccinated tourists without any travel restrictions from March 15. Travelers can skip quarantine and proof of negative COVID test by showing proof of a COVID-19 vaccination.

The 2nd dose of vaccination must be taken at least 14 days before arrival in Montenegro.

Estonia

Only vaccinated travelers can enter Estonia.

Visitors entering Estonia are required to complete a declaration of health prior to visiting the country.  

Belize

Visitors must present a negative COVID-19 test. Those passengers who test positive at the airport will be placed in mandatory quarantine for a minimum of 14 days at their own expense.

Cyprus

Widely known for its warm weather and bewildering beaches, Cyprus was the first European Country to openly announce its plans to lift quarantine and testing requirements for all vaccinated visitors.

According to Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos, The government expects to increase the number of international visitors and to “further boost the interest of airline companies to carry out additional flights to Cyprus and improve connectivity.”

Lithuania

Effective March 10, all people visiting Lithuania who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have recovered from the virus “on the basis of a positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR test or antigen test result,” can visit the country without testing or quarantine restrictions. 

However, from the same date on, all visitors, residents or returning nationals will be requested to submit a negative Covid-19 test taken up to 72 hours prior to arrival if they cannot produce a vaccination certification. 

All these documents must be translated into Lithuanian, English or Russian.

Please note that this vaccination exemption only applies to EU and Schengen area visitors and 7 third-party nations suggested by the EU. (These countries will be updated regularly, travelers must consult with their embassies). 

Guatemala

This country in Central America is the first one of the region to lift all movement and entry restrictions for travelers who have been vaccinated against COVID.

These travelers will need to show the document that certifies that they have received both doses of the vaccine at least 14 days before their arrival in the country. 

All other travelers will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result obtained in the 72 hours before their arrival. In addition, all those who have been to the U.K. or South Africa in the 14 days prior will need to self-isolate in their chosen residence.

Iceland

Only fully vaccinated passengers will be permitted to enter Iceland. 

Those citizens granted permission to enter the country must complete a pre-registration form prior to departure to Iceland.

Lebanon

Lebanon has an exceptionally rich history showcased in its multicultural architecture, unique cuisine and warm people.

International tourists can enjoy Lebanon once again since the country has lifted quarantine requirements for travelers who have been vaccinated (and have the document to prove it). Vaccinated travelers still need to submit a negative COVID-19 test result.

As of right now, visitors from all countries are allowed entry as long as they obtain a visa. Some categories of travelers can even get one on arrival. 

Non-vaccinated individuals will need to get tested twice (96 hours before departure and once again on arrival) and agree to a 72-hour quarantine.

Poland

All allowed visitors must undergo a 10-day mandatory for arrivals from the Schengen Area and 14-day quarantine for arrivals from outside the Schengen Area.

Travelers from the Schengen Area who can produce a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours prior to arrival are exempted from quarantine.

Visitors from outside the Schengen Area can shorten their quarantines to 7 days if they can produce a negative COVID test no earlier than 7 days after arrival to Poland.

Moldova

Starting on March 5, people who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine are allowed to enter the country without restrictions. This includes visitors from “high-risk countries”. Visitors from these countries are normally not permitted to enter the territory.

On the other hand, also effective on March 5, all allowed visitors must bring a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to arrival. If they don’t, they will be forced to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. 

Romania

Heavily impacted by COVID-19 in terms of economy and lost lives, Romanian government has decided to open up its doors again to all tourists who have taken the second dose of a coronavirus vaccine 10 days upon arrival. 

Seychelles

Blessed with tropical weather all year round, exotic cuisine, and world-class scuba diving, the 115 islands in the Indian Ocean that make Seychelles are a must-see for all active travelers. 

All incomers must show proof of an “authentic vaccination certificate.” It must reflect the visitor has already taken 2 doses of one of the four most popular vaccines.  

Proof of insurance that covers COVID-19-related expenses is also needed.

Slovenia

Slovenia has announced that visitors from the EU, Schengen area and other third-party countries who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 can freely enter the country, no quarantines or tests required. 

They will need a certificate showing they have received both doses, the last one, at least 14 days after the second dose of Moderna, 21 days after the AstraZeneca, and 7 days after the Pfizer-BioNTech.
