July 20 – Qatar welcomes fully vaccinated international travelers from July 12

Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health has decided to welcome back fully vaccinated international travelers arriving through its air, land, and seaports without quarantine, as long as they have received a Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson or AstraZeneca vaccine.

“We are delighted to be able to open our doors once more and extend a friendly hand of hospitality to the many vaccinated travelers who can now come and experience Qatar” said Berthold Trenkel, Chief Operating Officer of Qatar Tourism.

Nationals, residents and tourists, must upload their vaccine certificate and COVID-19 test result to Ehteraz website.

Visitors still need to bring a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to boarding. And download the Ehteraz mobile app which requires a Qatari SIM card for activation. These SIM cards can be easily obtained at the Hamad International Airport.

July 26 – Qatar to maintain restrictions for unvaccinated travelers until COVID-19 is eliminated in the world

HE Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health has stated that the country will continue to enforce testing and other types of COVID-19 related restrictions on people who have not received the full series of an approved vaccine until the virus has been eliminated in the world.

“[testing] and [herd immunity], is something we are still working on, but we are optimistic that most countries will reach the required level of vaccination and then we will see the number of tests decrease and economies return to what they were in different countries,” said the Minister at the Environmental Economics and Public Health powered by Bloomberg.

As of now, Qatari authorities started phase 2 of domestic restrictions lifting from June 18.

June 11 – Qatar to reopen for tourism right after reaching herd immunity in July

Qatar’s Director of Public Health is quoted to say the country is set to reach herd immunity against Covid-19 in July, thanks to their successful vaccination campaign and the help of Qatari citizens whose adherence to biosafety measures will permit them to reopen for tourism “very soon.”

“We will be among the first countries to get the herd immunity in one month from now assuring that we can open in the coming months very soon for tourism.”

For now, travelers visiting Qatar as their final destination need to submit a negative Covid-19 PCR taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.

Visitors who have been or transited through Vietnam, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Philippines must submit a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 48 hours prior to their departure.

May 28 – Qatar Airways will resume flights to Spain on July 2.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive has announced the airline company will resume flights to Malaga Spain on June 2.

Back in 2018, Malaga had become the third most visited city by Qatari travelers.

“As the world begins to open up again, we at Qatar Airways stand ready to take the lead in supporting the global economic and social recovery as demonstrated by our support for tourism in Spain. Spain has always been a strategically important country for our airline, as reflected by our deep partnership with Iberia and steady rebuilding of our Spain network” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker.

This service will operate from 2 July to 12 September only.

May 12 – Qatar to start lifting internal restrictions from May 28

Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Commerce and Industry officials announced on Qatar television a 4-phase reopening strategy starting May 28.

From May 28, residents will be able to return to shopping malls and outdoor restaurants at 30% capacity. Only fully vaccinated customers will be allowed to enjoy indoor dining.

The second phase will start on June 18, the third phase on July 9 and the fourth phase on July 30. Each will allow more tourist venues, restaurants and malls to reopen at a bigger capacity and more privileges for vaccinated citizens.

“Unlike last year, we will be able to make more freedoms available to those people who are vaccinated where they will enjoy certain privileges before others,” said Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation at the press conference.
