Starbucks Japan Will Open Its First Sign Language Store

Starbucks Coffee Japan Ltd says it will open a branch in Kunitachi, western Tokyo, and this will be the first Starbucks store in Japan with sign language ability for hearing-impaired customers. According to a report by Kyodo News, This Starbucks branch will have 19 hearing-impaired employees, out of the 25 staff members.

The hearing-impaired employees in Japan sought to open a signing store, after finding out about the signing store that opened in Malaysia last 2016. Currently, there are only four existing Starbucks stores that offer sign languages, these stores are found in Malaysia, the United States, and China.

In the time of the novel coronavirus, the new signing Starbucks store will hand out numbered tickets for customer entry, and only takeout transactions are allowed.
