CSSDO provides food assistance to 19,000 persons

DAVAO City June 30, 2020 (PIA) – The City Social Services and Development Office continues to provide food assistance to more or less 19,000 persons from 701 establishments and 50 associations who are not allowed to return to work as the city observes the general community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marilou Bermudo, chief of the CSSDO bared that their office extends food assistance through food rations to sports and fitness, gym workers, personal care services like manicurists and masseurs, hotels and resorts, and events management services.

She said the food rations are given to this sector since May 26, 2020. 

“Most of the needy come from the classification made by the Department of Trade and Industry of sectors that are not allowed to work under the GCQ,” Bermudo said.

She also revealed that the CSSDO has helped also more or less 2,398 families on areas under lockdown or quarantine as of June 29, 2020.

Bermudo said they also extend help to mall workers who do not report regularly.

“Mall operators coordinate with our office on the number of their workers who are not allowed to report regularly due to the pandemic, we also extend assistance to them,” she said.

Bermudo urged those who still have to be assisted to coordinate with the CSSDO for their food rations.

She also assured that their programs remain in full operation but trainings and capacity building activities remain suspended to ensure physical distancing.

Bermudo said these programs which are people-oriented range from child minding centers, alternative early childhood and development, protection measures, livelihood programs, food operations, bahay pag-asa, lingap center for children with disability, home for the aged, drop-in center for children and financial assistance in times of disaster.
