DILG suspends return of LSIs to E. Visayas for 2 weeks
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 27 (PIA) — Travel to Eastern Visayas of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) has been temporarily suspended for two weeks starting Friday, June 26.
This, after DILG Secretary Eduardo Año approved to temporarily stop the return of LSIs from June 26 to July 9 in response to a joint resolution submitted by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (RIATF-MEID) and the Regional Task Force for COVID-19.
During the recent visit of DILG Secretary Año and Chief Implementer of the Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19 Secretary Carlito Galvez in Eastern Visayas, local government units in Eastern Visayas have aired their concerns to the national officials as many quarantine facilities are already full.
The two officials were supportive in addressing the concerns of the local chief executives in Eastern Visayas and likewise praised the local officials for properly managing the COVID cases in their respective LGUs.
The joint task force recommendation to suspend the return of LSIs was due to to the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases in Region 8 coming from LSIs.
This is also to give time for LGUs to vacate and disinfect quarantine facilities for returning residents.
As of Thursday, report from the DOH-8 revealed that over 58 percent of the COVID-19 cases in the region are from locally stranded individuals.
Meanwhile, Sec. Año and Sec. Galvez also turned over 8,000 PPEs for the health workers and frontliners in the region. (ldl/cba/PIA8)
