DTI’S livelihood seeding program brings hope to micro entrepreneurs

APARRI, Cagayan, June 30 (PIA) – – At least 10 micro entrepreneurs in Aparri were given new hope as they received their start-up livelihood kits consisting of basic necessities and prime commodities and other locally manufactured products to open a sari-sari store business.

The 10 micro entrepreneurs are among the beneficiaries of the Livelihood Seeding Program-Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (LSP-NSB) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Region 02.

According to Cagayan Provincial Director Ma. Salvacion Castillejos, LSP-NSB is a government initiative to help small enterprises get back on their feet through the provision of grant-in-kind assistance and capacitating them with training on basic entrepreneurship and simple business plan preparation.

The program, she said is implemented in collaboration with the local government units.

“The coverage of the NSB Program was expanded to give priority assistance to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected by health disasters arising from epidemics and pandemics such as Covid-19. We do not only provide business development assistance but also livelihood kits in order to help MSMEs recoup and to re-ignite economic activities within the community especially during this time,” Castillejos added.

She also thanked LGU-Aparri, including the barangay level, for being their partner in the implementation of the program.

“The barangay LGUs have the fundamental role in identifying the MSMEs in their areas that have the potential of becoming big businesses,” Castillejos said.

For his part, Mayor Bryan Dale G. Chan expressed his enthusiasm on learning about the program being implemented in Aparri.

“LGU Aparri fully supports this initiative and will continue to work together with DTI in implementing programs and projects that benefits our constituents,” Chan said.

The mayor also signified his support to DTI’s advocacy on the “Buy Local Products Ordinance” that DTI Region 2 Director Leah Pulido Ocampo is championing. (ALM/PIA-2/DTI Region2)
