Local transmission of COVID-19 now in Davao de Oro

DAVAO DE ORO, July 15 (PIA) – – Due to breach of health protocols, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is being transmitted locally in Davao de Oro.

The provincial government of Davao de Oro announced on Monday evening that two individuals separately got the virus from different COVID-19 confirmed patients from Monkayo and Maragusan.

In Monkayo, the patient was the fifth confirmed case in the municipality and contracted COVID-19 from the town’s third confirmed case.

According to the local government unit of Monkayo, the third confirmed patient is a locally stranded individual from Cebu City, arrived in the town on June 21, and went straight to a Barangay Isolation Unit (BIU) for quarantine.

While waiting for the latest swab test result, the patient got out of the facility without the permission of the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT).

Monkayo Mayor Ramil Gentugaya has placed the community of the third patient, Damsite-NHA Housing Resettlement in Barangay Union on a localized Enhanced Community Quarantine from July 13-23, 2020.

Aside from the confirmed patients, the family members of the third patient are also placed in a 14-day quarantine.

In Maragusan, the first case of local transmission of COVID-19 is between a mother and child. The child is an Overseas Filipino Worker from Macau, who arrived in the town on June 22 and immediately went into a quarantine at a Barangay Isolation Unit. The mother kept on visiting her child at the facility. When the result of the swab test of the child came in positive on July 4, the mother was also placed in the facility for quarantine.

Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy shared on social media that there is still an ongoing tracing to the possible individuals, who came in contact with the patients.

The local chief executive also asked the cooperation of the returning residents and their families through a proper coordination with their respective local government units.

“Sa mga kaigsoonang locally stranded individual o overseas Filipinos nga muuli sa Davao de Oro, palihog ko coordinate ta sa atong mga municipal local government units. Sa mga pamilya sa muuli-ay, palihog ko makig-cooperate ta sa LGUs. Kita na mismo ang makig-alayon kanila aron sa luwas nga pag-uli sa atong mga minahal sa kinabuhi,” Governoy Uy said.
