MRT-3 to run fewer trains as Covid infects 127 personnel

THE Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will operate with fewer trains after the number of its depot personnel infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) ballooned to 127, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) said in a statement on Thursday.

The DoTr said that from the 16-19 trains that carry 153 passengers daily, only 10 to 12 would be operational.

The reduced capacity aims to further curb Covid infection.

The DoTr said 25 cases of the virus were reported last June 22.

Maintenance workers who had contact with those infected at the depot were placed on quarantine, the DoTr said.

MRT-3 has 1,700 depot personnel.

The MRT-3 management said that staff manning its stations were Covid-19 free.
