SORSOGON CITY, June 30, 2020 (PIA) -The Department of Health (DOH) Bicol has reported the very first case of COVID-19 related death in the province of Sorsogon after a positive result of swab test conducted from the patient named code Bicol #114 on June 30, 2020. The confirmed COVID-19 fatality was an eighty three (83) year old female Filipino named Josefa Jasmin of Cogon, Gubat, Sorsogon.

The first case of covid death in Sorsogon was discussed by Governor Chiz Escudero in his press briefing conducted on June 30, 2020. The governor said that the province’s first COVID19 fatality has a travel history from the Quezon City who was first admitted at St. Luke’s Hospital on June 13, 2020 due to kidney disease and was diagnosed negative for COVID19 thru Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT PCR).

Josefa Jasmin travelled and entered Sorsogon province on June 18, she was admitted at the Metro Health Hospital in Sorsogon on June 26, 2020 due to difficulty in breathing. She was diagnosed positive for COVID19 thru RT PCR test as confirmed by DOH RO5 and passed away last June 29, 2020, Her remains was immediately cremated.

The provincial health office of Sorsogon and PESU are now conducting contact tracing and to immediately quarantine all those who have had into contact with the said patient prior to her death. Governor said that the hospital where the departed patient was confined will not be subjected to lockdown considering that the hospital management has complied the DOH protocols in dealing with the said patient until she expired.

The governor likewise, had announced that he will issue a new executive order that will require all persons coming in to the province of Sorsogon to undergo a 14-day quarantine at the government established quarantine facility and to set aside the existing home quarantine under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) in the province.

The third confirmed case of COVID-19 in Sorsogon is from Sorsogon City under the DOH patient code Bicol#113. A 23 year-old male from Bibincahan, Sorsogon City and now being quarantined at the government facility in the city while those in contact with him are now being traced by the local health authorities.

The province has now a record of four COVID-19 positive cases. Of these number, one has already recovered, two are active cases and one death.(MBAtun)
