Live sketch comedy and real animals don’t always mix for the best, but Saturday Night Live proved that the combo can be beyond hilarious in the “New Military Weapon” sketch from guest host Simu Liu’s episode.
The Shang-Chi star plays a general in the U.S. Army trying to convince Pentagon officials to approve his pet project (pun intended): dog-man soldiers with human bodies and golden retriever heads. While Liu’s character stoically argues that dog heads are the future of warfare, SNL veterans Cecily Strong and Mikey Day can barely keep it together as the very good dog actor goes off script hunting for bits of sandwich behind a table.
It’s classic SNL — unpredictable, funny, and off the rails in the best possible way.
