The digital artist, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, recently sold his first piece of physical art, a screen-covered rotating metal box that shows an astronaut walking through changing landscapes, for a whopping $28.9 million at auction — and back in March he sold an NFT for $69 million (a non-fungible token called Everydays: The First 5000 Days, which collects together his daily drawings from the past 14 years). As he explains to Jimmy Fallon in the clip above, he used to sell work for $100 at most before he discovered the world of NFTs. “I think you’re going to see a lot more people do this, and a lot more artists take this approach, just because it is another way you can monetize and make a living,” he says.
