Actually, it’s the work of Domee Shee, the Oscar-winning director of the Pixar short Bao, who’s returned to the Pixar fold with her directorial debut Turning Red. The story follows Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang), a 13-year-old with a bit of a problem: Whenever she gets overexcited, she transforms into a gigantic, talking red panda. Her mom (Sandra Oh) knows all about the unusual condition, but — as this first trailer highlights — her worries for Mei only add to the trouble. Pixar’s Turning Red arrives on March 11, 2022, though there’s no indication at this point of whether Disney intends for it to be a theaters-only release or a theaters-plus-Disney+ Premier Access release. But at least we have a date.
