‘I couldn’t fake it.’ Vice Ganda walks out from ‘It’s Showtime’ stage

It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda could not hide how much he was hurt by the decision of lawmakers to kill ABS-CBN ‘s franchise application, which keeps the network’s main broadcast platforms off the air and puts thousands of jobs at risk.

Vice was visibly pained as he was singing, “Basta’t kasama Kapamilya / Kahit ano pa yan kayang kaya.”

And when the song reached the line “Pangarap mo’y makakamtam,” Vice Ganda left the stage, and co-hosts, Jhong Hilario and Vhong Navarro were shocked,

Later in a tweet, Vice Ganda explained why he walked off the stage, saying that he couldn’t fake the feeling of being cheerful.

“Kailangan kong umexit sa point na yun para umiyak. I couldn’t fake it. Pero ok nako after humagulgol.”

It can be recalled that while waiting for the congressional verdict on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, Vice Ganda was among those who rallied to give ABS-CBN a chance to continue its service in the field of entertainment and public service.

Netizens had mixed reactions to Vice Ganda’s unexpected walkout.

Vice also showed his support for ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal on his Instagram.

In a vote of 70 against 11, the House Legislative Franchise Committee announced that it had rejected ABS-CBN ‘s bid for a new franchise, effectively closing the country’s largest media network.

This endangers the jobs of more than 11,000 workers of the ABS-CBN group of companies, whose programs have enjoyed a wide reach of more than 80 million Filipinos, both here and abroad.

ABS-CBN’s quest for a new franchise was further complicated by the relentless attacks by President Rodrigo Duterte, who was persistently threatened to end the network.

Bills calling for a new ABS-CBN franchise had been stalled in the House Franchise Committee since 2014 and had not moved forward until media attention to the NTC shutdown had forced congressmen to seriously consider the idea.
