Kalanggaman Island’s White-Sand Beach Reopens in August

(SPOT.ph) Aside from being known for the famous General Douglas MacArthur line “I shall return” and the long-and-winding San Juanico Bridge, Leyte in Eastern Visayas is also a tourist hotspot for the gorgeous Kalanggaman Island. This white-sand beach destination is set to reopen to the public in August, following five months of closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the reopening is only for residents of the Municipality of Palompon. Visitors would be required to show a barangay certificate as proof of residence, according to a report by Inquirer.net. In addition, only 50% of the island’s average daily visitors of 500 persons would be allowed when it reopens, subject to health protocols like the wearing of face masks and physical distancing.

The reopening of the island will serve as “a pilot project” to help boost local tourism in the area, according to Raoul Bacalla, municipal environment and natural resources officer in the said report.

Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and swimming in the crystal clear waters are just some of the activities you can do on Kalanggaman Island.
