On November 10, Paulo Avelino, Janine Gutierrez, and Jake Ejercito shared their thoughts on friends being romantic rivals during the media conference for the second season of Marry Me Marry You.

Avelino said he never experienced having a romantic rival in real life, but he would give way to the happiness of others if he had a friend turned romantic rival.

“Ako, I never experience sharing the same love person. You know, if kung wala naman, or hiwalay na I wouldn’t mind. Parang akin mas gugustuhin ko pang maging masaya ‘yung tao, ‘yung minamahal ko sa taong trusted ko.”

Ejercito then shared that he experienced having a friend as a romantic rival in real life, citing the ‘bro-code.’

“Ako to be honest, parang na-experience ko na rin ‘yan before eh. Me and my friend, we went for the same girl. It didn’t end nicely. Pero ‘yung nga, kasi parang may–there’s such a thing as “Bro-Code.” So parang, for me, mas ino-honor ko ‘yun.”

Gutierrez shared her thoughts, noting that she would not involve herself if it happened to her.

“Sila naman ‘yung friends eh so problema na nila ‘yun. Ako lang naman ‘yung napagitna.

“Siguro ano, ganon pa rin ‘yung feelings ko na parang sila naman ‘yung magkaibigan so pagdating sa relationship nila, as Janine ha, parang hindi ko na concern ‘yun kasi sila naman ‘yung magkaibigan.”

However, as Camille of Marry Me Marry You, Gutierrez noted that she would help the friends turned rival to find a resolution.

“Pero parang as Camille, talagang iniisip niya ‘yung mararamdaman ng lahat ng tao eh at ayaw niya ng may magka-away, gusto niya magkasundo lahat. So, parang sisiguraduhin ko na magiging maayos pa rin sila, lalo na kung dati pa silang magkaibigan katulad ni Andrea at ni Cedric.

“Kasi nga parang wala siyang magulang eh kaya sobrang mahalaga sa kanya ‘nung mga relationships at ‘nung family at ng mga friends who are like family. So, as much as possible ayaw niya ng conflict at gusto niya maayos lahat kasi life is short at love is the ultimate priority.”
