Sofia Pablo plays a mermaid in ‘Raya Sirena,’ a dream come true for the young actress

Kapuso star Sofia Pablo on Friday, April 22, was still surprised after landing the lead role in the fanta-serye Raya Sirena.

“Sabi ko rin sa sarili ko, ‘Wow! Grabe talaga yung chance.’ Ako nga po mula six nanunuod na po ako ng mga mermaid movies, seryes. So malaking bagay na po sa akin na natupad yung pangarap ko,” she expressed during the show’s virtual media conference.

The mini-series is GMA Network’s new approach to mermaid stories, stars Pablo and on-screen partner Allen Ansay, together with Saviour Ramos.

It was a dream come true for her considering that she had wanted to play a mermaid ever since.

“Kahit wala na po yung pangarap basta natupad sobrang sarap na po sa pakiramdam. Parang napaka-fulfilled tapos lalo na po at biggest dream role ko ang maging mermaid. So wala na po akong ibang iniisip kundi yung galingan, patunayan na worth it.”

Stars like Vilma Santos, Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach, Marian Rivera, and Anne Curtis all have donned the role of a mermaid in their careers. This time, Pablo, a 16-year-old young actress, gets to line up with them.

It also means that other artists might be jealous of her for leading Raya Sirena. However, she considered it motivation to prove that she deserved the role.

“Hindi naman po sa nararamdaman na baka may naiinggit. More on kapag may nagsasabi po sa akin, may nakikita ako na gusto rin nilang maging mermaid. Lagi ko na lang pong iniisip na kaya dapat mas pagbutihan ko po dahil sobrang dami.”

Pablo also expressed her gratitude to GMA Network and Sparkle Artist Center for showering her with opportunities. She currently stars in Prima Donnas Book Two, and at the same time, her mini-series will be showing soon.

“Opo! Nakikita ko po iyon nang sobra-sobra. Kasi po kahit na umeere pa po yung Prima Donnas ng one month ago, sinabi na po sa akin na there will be Raya. So nagulat po ako kasi, ‘Po?! Agad?!’ Tapos sabi nga po April 24 ang airing.

“So nagulat po ako kasi may Prima Donnas pa tapos mayroon na ulit bago. So sobrang overwhelming talaga and talagang nararamdaman ko na talagang pinapahalagahan din po talaga ng GMA ang pagiging aktres ko.

“Grabe yung tiwala na binibigay nila. Kaya mahal na mahal ko po ang Sparkle and GMA Network family ko. Kasi hindi nila po ako nakakalimutan and kahit kailan hindi nila ako pinabayaan mula pagpirma ko pa lang seven years ago,” said the young actress.

Raya Sirena is under the direction of Crisanto Aquino and will be aired starting Sunday, April 24, at 3:05 p.m.
