(SPOT.ph) The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway is shaping up real well! This massive infrastructure project growing over Cebu waters is pretty hard to miss, especially now that it has passed a construction milestone: the bridge’s main span was fully connected early in October. And with the goal of opening up to motorists come the first few months of 2022, it looks like it’s time to put this scenic drive on your bucket lists.

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway is shaping up:

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX)  was at 85.38% complete as of September 30. The entire project will span 8.9-kilometers and link Mactan Island to mainland Cebu via Cordova and Cebu City. The final segment of the bridge’s main span was fully concreted, filling out the last two-meter gap between Cebu City and Cordova on October 5! Yup, the expressway is now a complete link—just not yet fully functional for motorists, of course.

The main body of the expressway will have two lanes serving an estimated 50,000 vehicles daily. This will ideally lighten the load on the two bridges currently serving as Mactan and Cebu cities’ connection: the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge. On and off ramps will be located along the Cebu South Coastal Road while a viaduct will level down to a causeway in Cordova’s Barangay Pilipog, according to the CCLEX site. Once complete, the link will be equipped with an electronic toll system.
