Editors’ Picks: Glowy-Skin Essentials
Editors’ Picks: Glowy-Skin Essentials
Meet two of the glowiest staffers at goop: art director Renee Rupcich and senior creative copywriter Alyssa Nelsen Geiger. Both have remarkably beautiful skin, and both love clean skin care; we were determined to find out the specifics. The cornerstones of their routines are similar—tonic, serum, eye cream, and sunblock every day—but the products themselves are different.

ALYSSA LOVES:
-
STEP 1: TONIC
“Even if you’re not already a Vintner’s Daughter addict (as I am), you need to get your hands on their active essence—I’m obsessed. It’s a vinegary toner made with vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and botanicals: all the good stuff. I smooth it on religiously after showering and take big inhales while the tingly tonic does its job. It’s changed the texture of my skin.”

STEP 2: EYE CREAM
“A dark-circle savior. I dab this aptly named (Alert!) eye cream on in the morning to really wake up my eyes—it’s so lightweight. It’s made in Israel from pomegranate seeds, rose hip, and super hydrating hyaluronic acid.”

STEP 3: SERUM
“This silky-soft serum is made with calming jojoba oil, cooling rose otto, and nourishing neroli, and it smells (and feels) so good. I like to use it in place of traditional moisturizer, and the all-day-long afterglow speaks for itself. It’s also the perfect serum for summer—I don’t really wear a lot of makeup, so it’s the perfect in-betweener product that does dewy wonders for my skin and also leaves a little rose-kissed sheen on my cheeks.”

STEP 4: MINERAL SUNSCREEN
“Last summer, I was on a mission to replace all my old chemical sunscreens that had accumulated at the bottom of my sandy beach bag with an equally effective, safer, cleaner mineral formula. This one—made with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and also shea butter and calendula—has the creamiest consistency and sinks right in. Plus, I don’t feel like I have to reapply it a million times. Consider me a forever convert.”

RENEE LOVES:
-
STEP 1: TONIC
“I have some trouble areas on my face: clogged pores that show up when I’m stressed—or just in phase two of lockdown when showering happens every other (or fourth) day. But still, I want clear skin. After swiping on this magical-looking blue tonic, I can feel the tingling mixture—there are fruit acids and malachite in it—sweep all the junk out of my pores. Immediately, my skin feels fresher and cleaner. It really hits the trouble areas hard.”

STEP 2: EYE CREAM
“As I get older, I realize that to keep the skin around my eyes healthy, I need a little more help than the usual moisturizer. To help with fine lines and depuff my screen-tired eyes, this soothing cream works. And the puffiness from the two (maybe three) glasses of wine last night is completely unnoticeable.”

STEP 3: SERUM
“I love the results—I literally press and pat my face to feel the newfound elasticity in my skin—and the iridescent bottle brings me joy. I like a minimal routine for taking care of my skin, and this works instead of a moisturizer some days; it’s that nourishing. It feels luxurious and smooth going on, and the smell! Is that evening primrose I smell? (I looked at the ingredients, and the answer is yes, along with neuropeptides for collagen.) I definitely have to share this with my mom.”

STEP 4: MINERAL SUNSCREEN
“Every morning before I log on for work, I take a run (or a walk, depending how I’m feeling) around my neighborhood. So sunscreen is key. This SPF 30 from Beautycounter blends easily into my skin, feels nice going on, and really works.”
