Visitors with physical presence in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Brazil within the 14 days preceding arrival are not permitted entry.

July 23 – Seychelles to maintain restrictions despite of COVID case decline

Seychelles has been fighting the Beta South African variant; the Delta Indian variant and the Alpha UK variant since mid-May. Although 68 percent of its population has been fully vaccinated, the country has struggled to manage the pandemic while keeping the borders open.

Fortunately, the number of cases showed a “downward trend” in the last seven days according to the Public Health Commissioner, Jude Gedeon.

However, authorities have stated that this is not enough to lift domestic COVID restrictions.

“Removing preventative measures too early can be catastrophic and have a very negative effect. It is better that we spend more effort making sure that the outbreak is very controlled before we start thinking of relaxing measures,” said Gedeon at a press conference.

July 8 – Seychelles to extend internal COVID-19 restrictions – indefinitely – as cases spike

Just a few months ago, having a fully-vaccinated population was advertised as synonymous with freedom. Now, the reality seems to be different in some of the few countries where herd immunity is almost achieved.

Seychelles, as the most vaccinated country in the world, has not been able to flatten the curve of infections, according to a Bloomberg’s report.

“In view of the persistent community transmission of Covid-19, the increasing number of deaths, the confirmation of the presence of variants circulating in the population, the Public Health Authority is reinforcing the public health and social measures in place,” said the Health Ministry a few days ago.

To make things more uncertain, six Covishield and Sinopharm fully-vaccinated locals died of Covid-19 last week.

Seychelles were set to reopen for South Africans without quarantine on June 5. However,  after an unexpected turn of events, the government announced it will not reopen for visitors arriving from South Africa until further notice.

As of today, Seychelles is open to people from the rest of the countries if they can produce a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours prior to boarding or a vaccine certificate.

Additional local restrictions such as shops, bars, casinos, and other business closure by 19:00 will also remain in force.

Arrivals from Bangladesh, Brazil, India and Pakistan will be denied entry.

May 17 – More than a third of fully vaccinated people have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last week in Seychelles

Together with the Maldives, Seychelles is reporting the highest incidence rate of COVID-19 cases worldwide. This would be just another piece of bad news amidst a pandemic -only if- Seychelles wasn’t the world’s most vaccinated nation.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO), stated they were closely reviewing the situation. According to a WHO spokeswoman their “teams continue to review the data, assess progress and understand the trends.”

As of yet, 57% of those who have been fully vaccinated have received the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, 43% have received AstraZeneca jabs and almost 60% of the population is fully vaccinated.

Entry rules and COVID-19 related restrictions remain unchanged.
