Bambang pushes central terminal for UVs, PUJs, buses

BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 10 (PIA) – The local government unit here is pushing the management and operations of a central terminal for Utility Vehicles (UVs), buses and jeepneys to provide public transport for its villagers.

Mayor Pepito Balgos said the central terminal within the Pick N’ Save compound along the national highway in barangay Homestead will cater to commuters in going to the following destinations: Tuguegarao City, Santiago City, Bayombong/Solano, Kasibu, Kayapa, Aritao/Sta Fe and Belance in Dupax del Norte town.

“We are expecting this to open soon as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LFTFRB) already conducted an on-line inspection of the proposed central terminal. This will be a big help for our commuters who do not have vehicles,” he said.

Balgos said it was one of his proposed plans to operate a central terminal due to incessant public demand.

He said the proposed central terminal will also lessen heavy traffic flow along the national highway and nearby barangays.

Once the central terminal is fully operational, public transport vehicles will be required to load and unload their passengers at designated drop-off area within the central terminal, the mayor said.

“The security of local commuters shall also be protected considering the processes being provided by the local government and the LTFRB. Most importantly, the presence of the central terminal shall minimize, if not totally eradicate, the proliferation of the COVID-19,” Balgos added.

He further said that proper sanitation and wash areas will be conducted in strategic places and registration booths including the installation of 24/7 CCTV cameras.

“We will implement all health protocols so that the health and security of passengers will be safeguarded always,” Balgos said.

Bambang town is one of the traffic choke points along the national highway stretch in Nueva Vizcaya including the town of Solano.

The DPWH is now constructing by-pass roads in these towns to decongest heavy traffic especially during peak hours of regular days and during holidays where local tourists and ordinary commuters pay visits to various tourism sites in Cagayan Valley region or be with their families and relatives.
